Can anyone confirm or otherwise, that really bad nausea is a symptom of dystonia. I often feel really ill whilst at home and have to lay down for an hour or so until I begin to feel better.
Just recently, I was visiting a relative and felt so ill that I fell on the floor and did not have the strength to get up, nor did I want help to get up until the sickly feeling left me. I like privacy when I feel ill, but on this occasion, laying on the floor took precedence. Had I been in the street, I would have lay down on the floor there too, I felt so ill. When I begun to feel a little better on this occasion, I went to Hospital and they took blood tests and all the results were normal. Is this a typical frustrating symptom of dystonia?

you have had to be so ill you needed to rest on the floor. I have dystonia in my hand and when it is at it worse I get weak and in a lot of pain. When a person is in a lot of pain it often makes them sick to their stomach, I usually go to bed and sleep for a while, than I get up and soak it in warm water with epsom salts. This helps, but isn't a cure. Fall is a bad time of year if you suffer with dystonia. Hope you are feeling better.Carose

I'm sorry to hear that you are dealing with nausea too. I have gastroparesis which for me causes severe nausea. I have met 4 other people with gastroparesis and dystonia. Both disorders (gastroparesis and dystonia) are related to changes in dopamine function, so it is possible that they are related. Also, gastroparesis occurs in Parkinson's disease which is caused by dopamine depletion and affects the same areas of the brain that are involved in dystonia. Other symptoms of gastroparesis include fullness and nausea after eating only a small amount of food, abdominal and stomach pain, and vomiting. The vomiting or nausea may even occur several hours after eating because the food sits in the stomach and does not move easily through the digestive tract. A lot of people with gastroparesis also have similar problems with their bowels including severe constipation.

I should also say that some of the medications used to treat dystonia can cause nausea.

My suggestion would be that you get a refferal to a gastroenterologist and be evaluated for stomach disorders that can cause nausea (like gastroparesis). You can read more about me and my struggles with dystonia and gastroparesis on my blogs. neuronswithdystonia.blogspot.com

Hi I have cervical dystonia and had deep brain stimulation last july since then i have lost my appetite feel nausea and have lost 4st in weight I think it is linked and am being reffered to a gastoentrologist within the next 2 weeks I have pain in my upper arms but the opperation has been a success I can now keep my head up and have been able to go back to work and can drive a lot better.

Yep i have very very simular issues just like above and am trying to find out if the 2 are related also

Thanks this is a possible 5th case ere mate , something im going to enquire to my neuroligist about as this sounds the same as myself in sooo many ways its untrue , the symptons are just like i wrote it myself
