Default Tricyclics anti depressants

Hi, just thought I'd pass on something I learnt today.

I have a Neuro disease with an associated movement disorder. Clonus, spasming, spasticity, hypertonicity.....blah, blah.

Well, I recently asked to see a Psychiatrist for the first time because of depression. The Psychiatrist was absolutley lovely and started me on Doxepin (Sinequin). It was great for a few days then I started getting generalised dystonia. Just mildly at first and easily treated with a low dose of Valium but then one morning....wow, completely locked in. Scary!

When it eventually eased off I took a massive dose of Valium and rang the Pharmacy. Turns out that Tricyclic anti depressants can worsen movement disorders, so now the Doxepin has been ceased and I'll be going to the Psych in a couple of weeks to see what else is available.

I just thought I'd let people know to be careful.

Default Good to know.

Hi Myelogirl,
I didn't know that about tricyclics . I did know that they can raise your intraoccular pressure.
