Exclamation Help - Sudden Myoclonus Worsening - Full Body

Ok, folks, I'm striking out on Google here. My doctor referred me to neurologist, but so far the earliest appointment I can get is 40 days away and my symptoms are getting worse quickly.

Background: Male, late 30s, hypothyroid 15 yrs, history of depression and ADD.

Problem: For last several years, I've had myoclonus (involuntary kicking, twitching, some arm movement as well) when drifting of to sleep. Switched from SSRI to Welbutrin, no improvement. PCP and shrink said live with it so I did. Eventually I would notice it in the evenings when watching TV in the recliner, but figured it was just because I was tired.

Fast forward to the last few weeks and these symptoms are now all day whenever I'm sitting or, as of yesterday, just standing still. My legs smack together on their own, my arm flies back, my shoulders suddenly shrug. Last couple days, I'm noticing I'll go to grab something and end up throwing it or dropping it if it's fairly light.

Does anybody know what this is? I'm getting worried it's something terrible.

I have started taking calcium, magnesium, vitamin D and B12 in case of malabsorption, but no change.

Hi
Ive have myoclonus for 18 months on and off.Im not sure of why,i do have parkinson but few have it.There are many cuases so i would see your doctor about other causes first, drugs can cause but usally goes away after stopping them.I find I can stop them through concentrating as i dont get them driving much. They also can be brought on by reaching or certain movements
i read most psych drugs can bring them on sooner or later
good luck

Wondering if you found anything out about this. I am at the stage where 'm doing a lot of shoulder shrugging if I'm tired and other weird facial movements. I too was on an SSRI but recently suffered a reaction from Celexa which is when all of this was made worse. I do it more dozing off when I'm tried. I hope you're feeling better.

I'm new here as of today. If you find out, please let us know! I have the same thing. Saw a neurologist who wanted to treat with a medication without finding out why this is happening. On Monday I will call and ask at what point do we turn to diagnostic tests to determine the cause.

Hi Wezwee

Welcome to NeuroTalk .

I am sorry to read about your myoclonus.

This information might help you to ask your neurologist probing questions.
