I was having the same symptoms as all of you and actually was diagnosed with "Tarsal Tunnel". I had such a hard time getting to sleep because my feet would just burn and not stay still, I would get in the shower and just spray the coldest water for 5 minutes or so and it would help temporarily.
Since the surgery on my feet, it had not improved so now I just take Tramadol. If I take it by 6pm every night, I am able to actually sit through a movie whereas before my feet would drive me crazy...needing to keep the moving, and I sleep with no problem at all. If I miss the 6pm deadline taking my pills, I pay for it later. I never want to be without my Tramadol. It is a non narcotic pain reliever. It does not effect me the way it does with everyone else, my husband took one and he was knocked out, my daughter took one for her back and it made her hyper...I take 3 and it does nothing but even out the stupid restless feet. Hope this helps someone!! |

Hi kerrijosam,
You might like to search or post/repost over in the Peripheral Neuropathy Forum here where you can maybe get more information about how to relieve the pain without having to take the tramadol all the time. http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum20.html Peripheral Neuropathy Forum |

Before I had L-dopa I could take when I needed, I saw a doctor who thought my problems was just run of the mill cramps (how he got that from "the urge to move my feet" I don't know) and so prescribed me cyclobenzaprine. One dose made the RLS get so bad that I could not sleep for 3 days, at which point I went to the ER and was given a couple days worth of Valium.
I got six hours of sleep, woke up and threw away the cyclobenzaprine. Never again will I take that crap! Before that, though, I would rock my whole body back and forth and usually focusing on that and the movement that came with it was enough to get me to sleep. |

I too am a sufferer. I do have a tip which works for me.
Put your finger in your mouth+ then rub the finger vigorously up+down the back of the knee joint. ( back of the leg). It's the acid from the saliva in the mouth that does the trick. |

I started with what I now know is RLS or restless leg syndrome after a cervical surgery. It started in the hospital. I think from all the narcotics they were pumping into me. It is absolutely horrible to have to keep constantly moving your legs. It is exhausting. I ended up with some nerve issue after surgery. I then found this drug called Gabapentin. A soon as I started this the RLS disappeared and its been over a year now never to return. There is a form of Gabapentin just for RLS but the normal stuff is working for me. So happy this is gone. I felt like a zombie all day just from no good rest.
