Does anyone know if there are other diseases that mimic MS that involve the heat intolerance sx as well as the other common sx (numbess, tingling, leg weakness?)

One natural therapist (chiropracter/naturopath) I'm seeing says I have 'adrenal stress' - and he doesn't think it's MS.... he's got me on herbs and just no sugar/no caffeine.

My doctor thinks this is a load of rubbish!

My neuro doesn't know about this theory, but she thinks from my exam it's not MS either. But she's going to repeat my brain MRI after 6 months 'to see if anything comes up'..
She's tested for loads of other things, but all negative.

I hope my chiropracter is right, but the whole heat intolerance thing worries me. I do the 'bath test' every now and then, and I'm always left weak and tingly. It's not very hot though because my kids are in there too!
Being too hot in bed leaves my right hand and forearm numb (always the same spot).
Too hot under the blanket on the couch has me weak and shuffling.

Is this quite specific for MS, or maybe it's something else?

There are 2 schools of thought. Those who believe in having this disorder even in the face of negative blood markers, and no real markers other than a "belief" and those who say its all a bunch of hooey, and if you had such an issue the blood tests would reveal it.

You will find many who push the adrenal stress factor are also selling a bunch of products that will "cure you" of many things from thyroid issues, to hidden cancer cells.

I dont know if this is a real disease, or something that is an easily manipulated set of symptoms in an effort to sell stuff, but I know the internet is crammed full of folks selling you products to "cure it"

MS is a very difficult disease to diagnose, and isnt done so lightly. Are there folks who get mis diagnosed? yep! you betcha. Some of have been given the MS lable, and it turns out that the Lyme test wasnt accurate, or the Lupus markers were just in normal range for six months, and then went whacko. Most MS MDs are very careful about a full investigation before handing out such labels. its a devestating disease once written down on paper. It prevents you from getting proper insurances, and life insurances and can cause you to lose jobs, friends, and advantages that will be passed to others that are less risky.

Were you diagnosed quickly? Did they do the standard battery of MRIs? Spinal tap? full blood panels to rule out the 100s of other stuff first? I LOVE LOVE LOVE my chiro practor, but my neuro spent about a dozen more years in school, and was careful to search for other markers before laying this one on me. If your Thyroid levels are normal. your cortisol levels are normal, and your other markers were normal, your neuro would have already ruled out "adrenal stress" There is a reason folks live on Limbo island for so many years till more positive proof can be provided of an MS dx.

That being said, It wont hurt you to try the products and routines and see if you feel any better. PLEASE READ THE LABELS! some products are nothing more than a hyped up orange juice or seaweed. As long as you can afford the products, and are willing to take the chance...go for it! I have gotten such great relief from my chiropractor, and would be so lost without her. I am a huge advocate of complimentary medicines. Like trying a gluten free diet, it cant hurt to try it, and if it works YEA! and if not, you will know you tried.

((((((Free))))))...I always say, there is nothing wrong with a little naturalpath along with the medicalpath. Just be careful that the two mix well. Some herbs and some meds don't mix.

Some get misdiagnosed, but most neuros are so loath to dx MS that when they do, I feel that it's most often the correct dx. Many of us suffer for years because of their reluctance to name it MS.

I can't answer the question, but my guess would be yes, that other auto immune disorders are heat sensitive.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I never had heat issues till I started having Reynaud's symptoms - cold hands and feet. That came with the migraines, and is a vascular/nerve thing. But all my sx kind of came on around that time, so it's hard to say if the heat thing was part of the Reynaud's or what. And to confuse the issue, I am cold sensitive too.

To my limited knowledge, peppermint and St John's Wort are especially not to be combined with some meds - mint increased their effacacy and SJW decreases it. Grapefruit juice increases some meds several times over.

I can use mint with my current meds, in moderation (topamax and muscle relaxers). It helps with lots of things from stomach upset to fatigue, plus makes a nice iced tea or garnish.


I know limbo stinks, but I'd rather no dx than one that is wrong or we're unsure of. Some of my probs took a year or so to dx - which seemed forever at the time. 6.5 yrs later my neuro is still testing and watching for ms. I may never know.
