I have a lot of problems with my memory and its truly scary when it happens at work. I don't have a complex, multi-lingual job, but I am a secretary/personal assistant for the Sr. Partner in a law firm, so accuracy, etc., is very important.

I go though periods of extreme forgetfulness just like you did, where I completely forget something. Its not like a few years ago (before dx) where I'd forget something, but eventually have a vague recollection and even finally remember more. It's as if someone else did the thing! I can't distinguish if something I do remember happened yesterday, a week ago, or if it really happened all and I am recalling a dream I had!

I can deal with the pain (sort of), and I'll cope with numbness and all the other MS crud, but I HATE the stuff it does to my head!
I use all the memory devices at my disposal: daytimers, calendars, tickler files, computerized reminders, alarms. I have at least 6 note pads on my desk and jot down everything, that way I can always refer back to my notes. Only now I'm finding I don't remember to write things down anymore (LOL-what else can you do!).

Default Thanks to everyone!

Your kind responses were just what I needed. Sometimes you just really have to get that confirmation that you aren't alone, and that yes, this stuff IS a big deal. Non-MS people are so quick to say, "Oh, we all forget sometimes," but the truth is , I KNOW myself, and I know what's normal and what's not.

Long story, short...Thanks everyone. I just needed to vent, and have some babying!

I trust everyone will have a great weekend!

All best,

MS sucks.

I once forgot which part of my body the hip was (I confused it with the thigh)...had to look up online and find a picture. I was mortified - now at least I can look back without wanting to cry about it.

MS sucks. Oh wait, I said that already. Darn memory

ah ha,

i can relate also. just before i was forced to retire (i was 53 when dx'd) i could tell i wasn't as sharp. and i had to be as i was an RN in NICU (neonatal intensive care).

i'm not saying that will happen to you. i'd encourage you to share this with your neuro. there are some meds you can take that can help with cognition.
i've been taking Namenda for short term memory loss and have had an improvement in my thinking.

i'm glad you posted. let us know how you're doing.

I know how you feel. I was just dx with MS last sept. and it has been so hard. I just had a baby two months ago and i found myself feeding her to offen so i started writeing down in a notebook the time she ate and how much this way i wouldnt feed her to much. writeing things down is the easiest way to get though my day. Try it, it may help you alot.
