Amantadine is Elavil -- right? If so, I tried it years ago as an anti-depressant and it completely changed my personality. I was becoming somebody the total opposite of me......mean, loud, angry, etc. It's also used for the pain of fibromyalgia, but obviously it doesn't work the same for everyone! Hope you find the perfect solution for YOU!!

Judy, I hadn't realized that Amantadine could help with fibro. I AM less achy and boy, does it feel GOOD! (Started a week ago).

kicker - so glad it works for you and you have no side effects!

Twink - hopefully after you're done with all those other meds, you'll feel the difference for your fatigue. It's great that you're feeling less achy.

doydie - yep, the jitters were awful and my legs were cramping so it must have been the muscles reacting to the med.

Judy - I could see myself turning mean, loud, and angry if I stayed on it.

Apparently my reaction is more common than the nurse lead me to believe. Thank you all for your responses!

Just a heads up --

Amantadine is not elavil. Amantadine is an anti viral med. You are thinking of amitriptyline.

Thanks for the heads-up, Barb! I had my "A's" mixed up. It was the Elavil that changed my personality.

Rochelle -- Hope you continue to find some relief for your fibro. After being told I have it for years, I'm beginning to wonder if it's true as my pain seems to be more of a burning nerve pain all over. It never goes away either.

Elavil was the only anti depressant I could take that did not change my personality for the worse. Isn't it funny how that is so often the case, we all react differently to this stuff! Elavil worked really well for my pain.

It is interesting to hear how others react differently to medications. Where one is good for someone, that same medication is harmful for another.
