So I spoke with the nurse in my neuro's office. She said the side effects I was feeling while I was taking Amandatine were way wrong. She was surprised I reacted that way to the med and said it was a mild pill. Now I am so glad I stopped taking it last Friday. She spoke with my neuro who suggested I try Provigil so she called in the rx. Now I am off to read Dejibo's thread to see what everyone had to say about Provigil. I'm just leary to try anything again.

I absolutely Loved Amantadine. I have never felt so much energy and so much happiness as on Amantadine. Nothing bothered me at all. (Is this what cocaine feels like?? Or a Manic episode??). But, it made me clench my jaw so I stopped it.
I hope that provigil works for you. It made me feel terrible. Maybe since you and I had polar opposite reactions to amantadine, Provigil will make you feel great!

BBS - I hope your right! It's too bad you clenched your jaw and stopped a med that was helpful to you.

I tried Amantadine and it didn't help me at all. Provigil works wonders for me but I just take 1/2 of a tablet. A whole one will keep me up at night. It also takes away my appetite (double bonus!).

Amantadine did not do a thing for my fatigue. I only took it for a few days, but I remember I felt really sick, had a headache. Had to stop.
The doc encouraged me to try it when my insurance balked at the cost of provigil - after they'd paid for it for like a year. ![]() I had to go through hoops to get them to pay again. I'd had good results with it for some time, then it just stopped helping. I keep thinking of trying it again someday to see if it helps after taking a break. I did have some headaches for the first week or two with provigil, but not too bad. And I'm so prone to h/a it was not a real issue - air gives me h/a, lol. That was the only side effect, if it even was one, that I had. Good luck with it.

braingonebad - I too have issue with headaches so if that's the only side effect, I can deal with it.
It sounds like my insurance may not cover it from what I am hearing on here. I hope they do. |

I take Amantadine, no side effects, thought it was doing absolutely nothing, so I stopped and discovered it took me from dead to just 1/2 dead!! Talked my neuro into Provigil and like they give Hyper kids Ritalin (an upper) which works the opposite on Hyper to calm them down, Provigil made me more tired. (so maybe like my PCP said, I am a little Hyper.) On Amantadine for a long time now, doing OK.

Karousel, I'm so sorry Amantadine didn't help you. But I hope (as BBS1951 suggested) that Provigil does the trick for you.
I'm still doing okay on it, but am currently taking so many meds for my upper resp. crud that I can't really say if its helping. Good luck!

I tried Amantadine for awhile but stopped it because I was so jittery. And also I felt like I was clinching my muscles especially my jaws. But I haven't had the flu since then!
