I thought of this while reading another thread and saw this quote
" I told her that wouldn't re-myelinate my nerves " I have phantom itching really bad and look like I always have some sort of nastiness because i am always scratching. I had a nurse tell me to get Gold Bond lotion to help that. I explained why I was scratching, that it was my nerves not real itchiness and she still said it would help.. Anyone think it would?

Maybe you can "fool" the nerves with the Gold Bond. Placebo effect. You need to believe.

Some of that stuff helps to soothe the irritation caused by scratching at imaginary bugs and stuff.

Feelings are real, solutions help. Now amputated limb phantom pain requires professional advice, try, if it doesn't work, seek more advice in likely spots.

It feels wet between my toes even though they are dry. I use baby powder after every shower and it does fool my brain.
With that thought, try the Gold Bond Lotion. It can't hurt. I have a great back scratcher for my phantom back itch. DH was massaging my back and shoulder when I had broken the shoulder and he knew exactly where to scratch that itch just because he had seen the red skin when I was dressing. Oh how I miss those nightly massages! But I will take being ignored over the pain of healing a break. |

I say give the lotion a try. If it doesn't work - but keep thinking positive!! - then at least you'll have soft skin.

Aarcyn - I want a massage. Think I'll have to pay someone for it.

Ooh, ick, imaginary itching? I get that sometimes, but only mildly. I put lotion on anyway. If nothing else, it does soothe the skin. I try a lot of meditation with stuff like that...not that it's easy, but with practice it may help. You could always try rubbing as opposed to scratching, maybe it will ease the itch and not leave marks on your skin?

it can't hurt and it's worth a try.
try rubbing instead of scratching. can't your dr give you something for that? would something like lyrica help that?
