Default I could easily become addicted

I have had MS for years with a little pain and stiffness all the time. Recently I was diagnosed with polymyositis which is painful as well. My MD prescribed me low dose prednisone for the polymyositis and told me I could take it more often or in a larger dose if I needed to.

Today I have such pain and discomfort I want to take the whole bottle. I am so afraid that I will come to depend on the steroid every day which is not in my Dr's plan. I am afraid to take more but I know it will make me feel better. I hate this situation!

I'm so sorry for your pain, KK. It's unusual though not unheard of, to take Prednizone for pain.

All meds can be bad for you and addictive, if taken often and in large quantities, but this is meant to be a temporary measure, I believe, so I would do as the Doc said and increase the dose, knowing that this is not going to last.

when the pain has subsided, you may want to titrate down off of the predizone, to make it easier on your body.

Let us know how it goes and take care.

i'm sorry for your pain. i too live with daily pain.
i would just keep your dr in the loop about what dose you're taking.
if it doesn't seem to work maybe he can come up with something else.

people that have diagnosed reasons for pain should be given pain relief. it's a standard of care in medicine. don't give up asking for help.

i hope you do better soon.

KK, sorry to hear about your pain.

I agree with nancy about getting a plan together to help with the pain.
