Thumbs up Constipation relief

Until last week I had no idea that taking calcium carbonate could cause constipation. Since I took 1500mg of calcium carbonate daily, I decided to stop taking it and see if it helped my chronic constipation.

After being off the calcium for 4 days, my bowel movements have returned to normal. I am irritated with myself for not looking into the calcium connection before now.

Here is an article I found that has some really good info on the calcium/magnesium issues that cause constipation. I am going to buy some of the recommended calcium described in the article to find out if I remain bowel healthy.

Perhaps this info will help those of you who may be taking the carbonate supplements.

as much as we need to keep cal/mag ... you are right - can't do it via vitamins ... would be doing just fine, then WHAM ... couldn't go!

I cut out those vitamins ... and have been doing okay!!

I find that magnesium by itself helps me go - I take in the am with my coffee. Coconut helps too. Add the milk to my smoothies, eat the coconut as a snack, mmm.
