When I was first diagnosed over 30 years ago, I was getting 2-3 exacerbations every year. After about 5 years they started levelling out to about one per year, then 2nd yearly until now I get one flare-up any where between two and 5 years apart. I do have the occassional pseudo exacerbation though. For me, these are a short flares of pre-existing symptoms usually caused by another medical event, such as a urinary tract infection, flu or similar, and for which I rarely need any treatment. Like true exacerbations, a pseudo flare can make you feel terrible, but they don't cause any new lesions to form so they're not actually a progression of the disease. |
Debbie - My relapses lessened over time. My 1st year was spent in serial flares - one every 4-6 weeks. My second year I did better and recovered quicker. Additionally, towards the end of my 2nd year I was finally able to use my left leg much better and didn't need the cane as often. My 3rd I had a few flares, one nasty one, but most of them were after a sinus infection - possibly pseudo flares, which feel the same to me. I am now in the beginning of my 4th year so who knows what will happen this year.
I truly believe that C was the right med for me and within 18 months of being on it, things started settling down. During the past few years, I have experienced lots of "repairs, reroutes, and rewiring." Heck, I only need my cane occasionally - off balance days and when walking longer distances. In hindsight, it is truly amazing how our bodies can fix itself like that. Give yourself some time with all of this. You'll get there. |
hi it can be so frustrating!
I have had many misdiagnoses over the years. Found most of my problems to be due to additives in food. Was I happy! serious problems that I had surgery for that didn't fix the problem. I found the ingredient in the food and bammmmm the problem was gone. TRULY If i take the food the problem is back. migraines, vision disturbances, warm sensations running down leg, burning rash on palm of hand, little clear blister rash on hands or feet, aching legs, cramping muscles, spaced out feeling, staring, swelling, heart palpitations, urinary tract discomfort, yes I have all of these when I come in contact with certain ingredients. |
