Welcome to NeuroTalk, Hebrews.. I'm sorry for your new DX of MS (maybe?) Sounds like MS to me.

You are in the right place for answers, support, to rant and for some fun, too.

Be sure to have your Doc treat your symptoms, at least until they are sure of your DX.

welcome, and I am sorry you had to go into the hospital, thats never fun.

MS is a slow disease to get a diagnosis with. They can diagnose you with very few lesions, but then they need to see you have at least 2 flairs that are separate, and follow certain criteria.

There are more than 100 diseases that can mimic MS, brain lesions and all. its really quite a large challenge to get someone diagnosed sometimes.

I am sorry you dont feel well, and hope you get answers soon.

I have a hard time when someone says they have "every symptoms of MS, all of them." Not even those of us with MS have every symptom of the disease. This disease is too varied for someone to have EVERY symptom of MS.

Do you have MS? Only time, testing and your Dr. will be able to answer that question.

There are numerous diseases/disorders that have similar symptoms as those of MS. There is a long standing criteria for diagnosing MS...The McDonald Criteria.

Here is some information about diagnosing MS:

Welcome to NT, Hebrews. Your best bet is to stick with the neurologist and keep him/her informed of your progress.

Try to relax some, stress and high emotion can aggravate just about any condition and it certainly does nothing for the mood.

As the others have said, MS takes a long time to show itself to doctors, they have to be careful to make the right diagnosis for your safety as well as their own.

Since none of us has all the symptoms of MS, it's my hope that you do not have it, but something milder that can be treated and hopefully, cured.

Did your tests include an exam for varicose veins? Even when not visible, they can be extremely painful. My brother had surgery for his at age 34.

Pray it's not MS, get enough sleep, and follow the discharge instructions you were given upon being released from the hospital. Keep your neuro informed and keep us posted, as well.

Welcome to NeuroTalk, hebrews.

Sorry for your painful leg and hospital stay -- and then to not have a definite answer. Its very frustrating, we know.

We hope you'll stick around and visit often. There are a lot of helpful and friendly folks here who can help. I agree with AMN: try not to get too stressed! That doesn't help at all!

Welcome to our little community here. I agree with everyone else on what they have said except that if your symptoms are strong enough for a diagnosis of MS and you only have one lesion there is a diagnosis called 'clinically probable MS'. Some neurologists will go ahead and treat just like it's MS and others go for the 'let's wait for another episode and see'. And both of them are correct in their thinking. Keep a symptom log and keep your appointment with your doctors. Also stay here with us if you need our support!

Default Hello Hebrews

I 'hear' your frustration/anger! Pain SUX!

What have they done to treat or try to target the leg pain issue? Have they performed any type of SNB (Spinal nerve blocks) Sympathetic nerve blocks?

Is it burning pain? Was anything mentioned about possible peripheral neuropathy? Lumber region houses the nerves ganglia that spread outward to the lower extremities.....
Severe Leg pain took 6 yrs away from me, until it was targeted to be lower spine issues....

They should be doing more aggressive testing regarding the leg issues, instead of just giving you an off-label script meant for controlling seizures.
Just my 3 cents

Rae

Hi hebrews,

Welcome to the NT forum. We will try to help if we can.

As most of the others have said, you just have to wait until something else shows up. You don't want a wrong diagnosis and get on the wrong medication.

It is so hard to wait. I was in Limbo for three years and the doctor could see my tremors and jerks. But they could have been from a lot of Neuro-diseases. I did get symptom treatment and steroids when needed.

They didn't have MRI's when I was DX'd. Maybe see a MS specialist since your hospital records seem to indicate that it could be MS.

They see tons of people all day. Maybe your clinical exam will help. Not everyone has classic MS symptoms and MRI's, so it takes longer when we present with odd symptoms.

You can wait and see what happens next, or change doctors if you are in a hurry to eliminate MS from your list. Good luck to you.
