I got the oral thrush from macrobid.
I'm allergic to cipro and all the sulfas...gads, if I get a hint of a UTI, the Doc gives me something-cillin..

F2U, That was a close call. Such a high fever and being out-of-it. Glad you got to the ER. So happy you are on the mend. Feel better soon Friend.

When I take any Anti-B's I also take a Pro-Biotic pill daily. It has the good bacteria in it, that is the same as yogurt only a billion times more good bacteria and more potent.

Anti-B's destroy all bacteria in the body and gut. This puts back the good bacteria we need to survive. It fights the bad bacteria, by keeping it in check. Take for two weeks even after stopping Anti-B's.

I can't take Cipro or Levaquin (Levofluxacin). The Fluoroquinolones exacerbate my MS. They have a FDA warning of increased risk of Tendinitis and Tendon Rupture, like the Achilles Tendon. So be careful with these.

Then I am allergic to Sulfa too. Not much I can take.

Cranberry pills, water, and using the test strips to check for UTI's are important preventatives. Pro-Biotic or Acidophilus pills (less good bacteria) are both good and yogurt without sugar.

Sugar nullifies the benefit of yogurt. Even the ones with fruit (fructose) in them. The sugar in the fruit kills some good bacteria or often feeds the bad bacteria. Plain yogurt or pills is best.

The hint that I am getting or have a UTI is, I feel like I'm coming down with something, I'm listless, weak, and have a hard time squeezing my urine dry. I dbl up on the cranberry and ASO has some pills to help with the symptoms. Usually I can nip it in the bud, before needing ABs.

Feel better..
I am sure I don't get my bladder all the way empty. I have a lot of trouble with that. I lean forward and squeeze over and over. But I just don't think it gets empty. I don't really know what else to do with that...

What is ASO?

My mom said she gets a urine sample in a clear jar to look at it. She said you can see white things floating in it if there is an infection....so I don't really know about that other than what she said.

Sally thank you so much for sharing your advice. I truly appreciate it!

The info on cranberry pills is great. Since I am also "juicing" and LOVING it, I will also add cranberries to some of my concoctions.

But most important, I am glad your fever did not get out of hand and that you are better.
Aarcyn....I would say I'm glad I'm not alone...but that would sound like I'm happy for your numbness and that is not the case. Doesn't it just seem like everytime you turn around you are discovering something new going wrong?!

The juicing sound very healthy...that would work out great for you to add in the cranberry pills!

I am feeling much better today...still achy but my muscles are sore for all the chills. Thank you so much for your response! I hope things go well for you too!

That is good to know...it would be easy to confuse it and think you were treating the infection...so I will remember that Azo pills will treat the sx. I won't get to a drug store for a while but I am going to look into next time we go in to town.

Thanks for you info!

I just got done yesterday with my antibiotics for my UTI. Mine started Sunday morning, I drank a TON of water and almost two quarts of cranberry juice just that day. Woke up the next morning and it was a lot worse. Nothing quite like peeing razors.

I ended up going to urgent care to get antibiotics, and the practitioner treated me like a criminal for having a UTI. They gave me a Sulfa and after two doses we discovered I'm allergic to them. So a round of Cypro got me over it.

Some signs are dark urine, strong smelling urine, and for me, feeling dehydrated even with drinking a ton of water.

I'm going to have to find me some cranberry pills, that sounds great and I can't stand cranberry juice.

I hope you don't have to go through this again. Oh and something my pulmonologist told me, about sulfa drugs anyway, was that the reason you are supposed to drink a lot of water with them is that they are very hard on the kidneys. I was drinking more than 13 cups of water a day for three days after stopping them and still so dehydrated that when you push on my finger the skin wouldn't spring back for at least a minute.

Hopefully this thing is gone for good, good luck!

Kristie
Kristie,
I am so sorry you are going through this. I don't understand why they were so hard on you because you had a UTI. Why do you think that was?

It's interesting about the being thirsty....because I have been drinking so much and yet I am still thirsty that has been going on for weeks. I will have to remember that this can be a sign. I am trying to learn to be more aware of what my body is trying to tell me.

Thank you for your well wishes. I'm sure I am on the mend. I sure hope you don't have to go through this again any time soon, or ever for that matter.

I sure am trying to stay well. Good thing I'm retired because this staying healthy seems to be turning into a full time job...lol... Do you ever feel that way?

Thank you for your well wishes...you are so very kind always!

"Mighty expensive pee" he said...he feels that the vit. c is just as effective. Ester C goes into the gut, so doesn't get destroyed by stomach acid as quickly...
Debbie, My mom was telling me this very thing today about the vitamin C. Her pcp had told her to take a vit c three times a day. She doesn't always get all three taken but always one in the morning with her other pills. I'll have to do some thinking. I do already have vit. c so can start taking it now. Then I guess if it works for me I will be good to go. I don't know how much the cranberry pills cost. As I was saying in an earlier post, I can't get to the drug store very often...so will have some time to decide I guess.

Thanks again for you help! It's great, though, how so many other people get so much from all the input. So I'm happy the issue was brought up, because it seems to be somewhat common. And I didn't really know that.

Well...oh boy!...I didn't know what oral thrush was so I googled it. For sure it's something I wouldn't want to get it. I was reading that with a weakened immune system it is very hard to get rid of. I am so sorry you had to go through that.

If I should start to get that....what do you do to get rid of it early?

I am glad you brought this to my attention...because other wise I would not have known. Thank you.
