I first off wish to apologize for starting a new thread when I know one is already underway (but I lost it).
I am 44 years old and have had RRMS for 20 years. I have been on the regular prednisone taper several times for exacerbations over the years with little success. I've also been on 3 day solumedrol infusions several times with good outcome. About a week ago, I had a NEW attack. R leg went numb, feet burning on a cold floor and bladder not co-operating (the latter was new). Went to my GP, hoping to talk him into solumedrol, but after he consulted with my Neuro, they came back with 3 days 1000 mg Prednisone. Was I p.o.ed. I told him he may as well give me tic tacs, it doesn't work. Well imagine my surprise when, 3 days later, I feel my legs again, bladder is better but not perfect yet, and I'm just waiting now for my feet to feel better. There was no taper for this "pulse therapy", and I know tomorrow will probably result in a "prednisone crash" and that I will still be "puffy" for a couple of days. (But my house is spotless from all the energy of the last couple of days, so that's one less worry.) I guess what I'm trying to say is that for me, it's working (side effects not withstanding). High dose, short period, no taper. I owe my doctors an appology. This is just my story and my opinion on the subject. I wish you all good health and stay strong. |
