Confused Miralax

I have been using miralax every day since May. Prior to that I used it occasionally. I was told by a rectal specialist to use it everyday as I was having an ongoing problem with constipation and fissures for several months. Within a few weeks, the fissures appeared to be healed. Since April, I have gained 8 pounds and I have not changed my eating habits. In fact, I have been trying to eat less. I have been experiencing a lot of bloating and stomach issues for the past few weeks. So a Physician Assistant told me to stop the miralax and try colase. So I stopped using the miralax last Wednesday and started the colase on Thursday. Well, I am less bloated, but now I am bleeding again. So I guess I am back on the miralax, as I do not want to go through the pain I experienced throughout the winter.

My question -- after that embarrassing long explanation, has anyone else used miralax on a daily basis? Have you experienced any problems with weight gain, bloating, and stomach pain?

Any suggestions? I started eating activia yesterday.

I use miralax practically everyday. I do find that after a few weeks, I need a break from it. I switch over to Milk of Magnesia pills. I think the magnesium helps to rebalance what happens when I keep all the stuff flushed out of me. I do find I bloat whether on miralax or off it, its just the way my tummy works.

If it helps your fissures heal, wait for them to become completely healed and then search for other relief I wouldnt want you to go thru that again.

eat yogurt! activa is a good thing for many.

I take Miralax every day in my morning coffee. I worked up from a small amount to about 1/2 usual dose, judging by frequency
(twice a week for me now), have no bloating or discomfort and stool is well shaped and good consistency. A little over (like 1/4 tsp.) and I was making "fudgies", which I hated. I know when I need to go, but not OMG or discomfort. I try to schedule my life so I'm home on "pooping" days. I experimented to this stage. I also take Oxybutin at bedtime and sleep through night (urination). A Urologist told me to do both, all elimination has improved and UTI's have not been a problem anymore. He has me on Nitrofurn Mono (An AB) 1x a day to prevent UTIs. Since Jan., so far so good.

sorry, I almost spit out my tea when I saw "fudgies" Thats exactly what happens to me if I take too much, but never knew how to describe it other than pudding. I too schedule pooping for days I am home, or adjust the times so I can be here at home for the big event.

Since I started eating Activia, every other day, I have not been either overly constipated or have the sudden, can't make it to the pot, urges. I poop every other day now and it's pretty normal stuff...for me.

I use Miralax almost every day.

I also eat prunes and activia with crunchy granola! I need everything to get the lower regions to move (pardon the pun)

Otherwise, I produce rocks or nothing at all.

I have gained weight and my belly is round. Some of the weight gain can be attributed to DH's sweet tooth...he is the one buying the stuff and some can be the medication I take (I want to blame Big Pharma because it makes me feel better!)

I am considering foraging in the maternity clothing area for clothes for comfort. I am slowing coming to grips with the concept "whatever works."

rocks are the worst! they are dry and hard to pass and can do some damage. I also have issues with the ability to push out things that reach the end of the line. softer is easier to get rid of.

I hope you are able to find a good balance.

"Fudgies" needs no explanation!

It took awhile to get the right balance. The rocks are gone. I hate how I now need to give what was once a natural function so much thought,

I like apricots better than prunes, but found eating Raisonets combined with my daily Miralax put me into Fudgie territory.
