Default Tegretol?

Has anyone heard of or been on Tegretol?

My neuro finally prescribed something different to help with the pain. But I looked it up to see what I'm looking at and the list of side effects is terrifying. I know that the really scary ones are rare and more common in people of Asian descent. But it seems like every med I have been on, if there is a rare side effect to go with it, I will get it.

I would just say forget it, call the doc back and tell him I just want to up my Elavil, but it is now the weekend. I just don't know if I should go ahead and take the med or tell my doc no way.

If it weren't for this stupid pain I would say screw it, but I can't deal with this pain, it is so intense.

Any thoughts on this med? Opinions are very welcomed, anything you got please!

Hi Nemsmom

My doctor wanted to put me on one of these drugs for nerve pain - especially burning , but I talked him into prescribing me with Prothiaden instead. Does it work as well - I don't know becaue I haven't tried the anti-epileptics. But it is OK and I can bear it now.

Regards

Lyn

Default Tegretol

Years ago my Mom took one pill. She ended up that she could not lift her head off of the pillow. Her GP could not understand that as he said they give it to little kids. She never took another one.

Personally, I would not take one either. I know it can affect people differently. Obviously, not everyone would end up like my Mom. I hope you find an answer.

I've heard of this drug before. Check it out at WebMD or do a search about it. I think it has some major side effects. Weight gain might be one of them. Not sure though. Just check into it. Always ask about the side effects if you ever question a med.

I have been on Tegretol for a bit over a month and have had no adverse side effects. The dosage has been increased from 400 MG per day to 600. Again no adverse effects.

Thanks for the info I was hoping to hear from someone who was on it.

I have read the info on it and that's what had me scared. Of course though I think I'm already on three or more meds that have the big box that has a caution from the FDA.

My neuro prescribed Carbamazipine (generic Tegretol) some time ago for my nerve pain. It seemed like a miracle!! The pain actually went away for awhile, but it did make me really sleepy. So I save it for the times when the pain is extra bad -- now I take warfarin (blood thinner) and haven't taken the "C" for awhile.
