My vision gets consistently worse every year. I don't know if that's related to MS, or not. Could be just my astigmatism.

However, I don't see well at night for driving. Although I drive after dark, some, in town, I try to stay on well-lit streets.

I've done some dusk-driving in the evenings on the highway. It works OK if I wear amber-colored goggles over top of my glasses. They help keep the color contrast between the sky and highway more obvious. After dark, they also help with on-coming headlights, so I use them in town, sometimes, when I drive after dark. I don't drive after dark on the highway or in the country.

I've never had Optic Neuritis.

I started out with missing fields - if it was 11.00 o'clock, I saw 1.00 o'clock, so I cut of the one. If you stood to my left, I simply couldn't see you. Then everything went grey and blurry - it was like looking at the world through heavy mist.

I went to the optometrist first, not even having heard much about MS. He gave me glasses, but it didn't help my problem at all. My world was grey and fuzzy and missing bits, everything bounced around when I looked at it (like street signs and books). It took a couple of months to get better - by the time I went and saw about it, it was nearly resolved.

Scary as it was, I still drove, I don't know what I was thinking. My eyest were very sore and I kept thinking it was conjunctivitis - but the meds didn't help. I got the suprise of my life when my sister told me to go to a doctor, with the eyes and all of the other kooky things that were happening at the time. She told me about MS, I had no idea.

well i had my eye appt yesterday. i don't have high confidence in this eye dr. she said my right eye had some nerve damage (asked if i had ever stared at an eclipse of the sun) but no diabetic retinopathy or optic neuritis. she mentioned it looked like a precursor to glaucoma or macular degeneration. the thing is, my right eye has been fine, and my left is the one i find is blurred a lot, and she found my left eye to be fine! maybe she was thinking her right? anyway, i have to go back for a glaucoma checkup next week...

Good luck on all your tests, Clark.. I hope it's all just an MS thing and clears up..

I'm glad that Optho wasn't operating on you..

Sounds just like me....except I've had ON. I sometimes wonder if it's just age catching up with me or the MS progressing. I tend to think it's age.....just sounds "better" to me! I do have friends that say they'd be blind without their contacts or glasses and that it got worse as they aged so.....I'm guessing mine is age, too.

I've upped my B-12 dosage hoping that will help.

I had something strange with my vision today, which scared me enough to call the neuro...
I got what reminds me of a field test...kind of see-through wavy pulsing lines. It began in my right eye, then it also went into my left eye. when I closed one eye, I could see the exact same thing in the other eye, which meant to me it was in my brain and not the eye itself.
It went on for about 40 minutes, getting worse over time, so I called. Wouldn't you know that while waiting for the nurse to call back it diminished. So I called and told her to cancel the call...she said, "Are you sure?"
H#@l yeah...like I want to talk to a doc...

Eeps, that's scary. Sounds like aura from migraine, but I am not sure if those are bi-lateral. I've only experienced such in the left eye, and only once did I have a central visual, but my auras in the left eye lasted approx. 30 min (onset to diminishing).

Something I'd definitely mention to your neurologist.

Yes Debbie, I think it would be a good idea to discuss that odd happening to your Doc.:)

Well, I had my appointment today with the eye specialist, she was really nice!

She did a lot of testing, some of which I had seen in online tests actually (the orange/blue, or yellow/green dotted numbers, if anyone knows the images I'm referring to). She had me test the colour red looking through either eye (I'm guessing looking for any signs of ON perhaps?).

She did tell me, to my relief, that my optic nerve looks very well, and my eyes very healthy, but I do need vision correction, -1.50 and -1.75 + .50x101 degrees.... if that makes sense to anyone!

So I went and put in the prescription today, glad I put some money aside after the Christmas shopping! Also glad that the doc believed this to not be due to optic nerve damage. Huge relief!

I can't wait to find out if the glasses are a notable improvement. I'll have them next week. :)

Optic Neuritis was what got me a dx of Ms, after many years of other symptoms (dizziness, staggering occasionally, constipation, MS hug, spasm). I had the scotoma and double vision on and off for 8 years, but always pain if I watched TV or a movie, so I gave them up for that period, and then it just went away. I also had a drooping eyelid which suddenly went away, doctor had before and after pictures, quite dramatic.

But then the doctor didn't want to see me any more after I recovered, and I think the Swank diet had some influence on the recovery, although a prayer meeting was where it happened.

However, then I got two more dx's--yes I'm odd. I got Porphyria, but it didn't seem to influence eyes much. Then I got Polycythemia Vera, (high platelets and red cells) and that gave me total blindness for ten minutes several times. Non-flush niacin 250 mg a day helped that. But I do get foggy vision because of the PV, and I am considering Interferon Alpha-2b to lower platelets. I get phlebotomies to lower red cells.

So I can't say if MS has anything to do with this latter, and different, eye problem, which has been with me the past six or seven years.

I wish I had one of those Christmas icons to put on here. Merry Christmas.

Mariel
