I've had TN since March & PN since early Sept., & it has been relentless for about a month now. Last night I experianced a numb feeling on the right side of my face. It wasn't completely numb, just slightly. I'm just wondering would it be completly numb??

Is this a new MS thing for me??

I don't have TN TG, but one of my very first MS symptoms was a numb forhead and face, in 1964. Just enough to worry me but not bad enough to rush me to the Docs, so I stayed unDXed till 1976.

MS can cause temporary or permanent numbness anywhere, in your body, there is a nerve.

I hope your TN pain is just a temporary thing and you find relief soon.

I had problems with numb face for a few years. I would bite my tongue and lips, and slur my words so I sounded like I was drunk. Thank God it isn't a problem anymore. Since being on Copaxone many of my symptoms have subsided or disappeared completely.

earlier this summer the right side of my face went numb. Felt exactly like my dentist had just stabbed me with a needle full of novocaine. My entire right side of my body went numb actually, but the most annoying part of it was my face.

I hate going to the dentist and getting my face numbed up for stuff. To me it's torture, so the entire summer really really sucked. I still have a bit of that numbness, so I dont think it'll ever all go away, but it's gone back and forth on the "quality" of numbness. I hope that will go away completely someday, but I dont expect it to.

I had an episode of TN some years ago.

I didn't have any numbness associated with mine, rather I had short bursts of severe pain, shooting across my face. It eventually eased and I've not had it happen again since, thank goodness! I hope I never go through that again, because it was agonising.

My neuro treated it with Tegretol and Methadone.

It was a fw years ago when I developed the most excruciating pain on the right side of my face. Non stop-agonizing-unrelenting-and no pain med helped. Went weeks - thought it must be teeth - finally went to dentist who said it was not teeth infection but neuralgia pain (forget)

But, here's what worked! He fitted me with a plastic thing that sets on my front teeth - prevents grinding of teeth etc - and in 1 day the pain had decreased and within three days all pain had ceased.

I wish I could explain better as he was very knowledgeable about the pain and triggers. They have full mouth pieces but the smaller front teeth one was cheaper so I choose that.

However, it is also small enough that I could wiggle it off and swallow it in my sleep - so I would HIGHLY suggest for anyone to go the extra dollar amount and get the full mouth piece one.

I only wear my small one during the day when I am awake.

I haven't had any further problems since I got the thing.

A dentist has to have this item fitted to your teeth/mouth.

As for face numbness, count me in. I've had both 'typical' and 'atypical' Trigeminal Neuralgia, so you can count me in on that as well.

'Typical' for me is the sharp blasts of pain down 1 side of the face (usually the left for me).

'Atypical' lives up to it's name in my case... I can't predict WHAT it will do! What side, or if both will be affected, how long it'll last, and it goes from a numb, almost novocaine-like (as Erin mentioned) sensation, to creepy, crawly burning sensations in my temples/under my eyes/my cheeks, where the usual sensation of 'normalcy' is replaced by a numb or 'not right' feeling to the area affected + a host of other fun crawly, burning fanfare.

'Typical' is much more breath-stealing instant onset of tremendous pain (left me in the fetal position on the floor praying for mercy), while the 'atypical' is either there upon waking, worsening through the day, or slowly comes on and isn't as severe on the 'pain scale' as the 'typical'.

Notable as well, I've not ever had a breath stealing moment on my right side, only the left... I've had the jab pains like a pulse on the right, but nothing even close to what I experience on the left. Atypical for me affects me bi-laterally.

My TN, on the left side, is controlled with the gabapentin, once in awhile I get a painfull twinge or two, but I just started to have s slight numbness on the right side of my face. It's not completely numb, just feels weird & a little numb.

I have all these symptoms, & am waiting on an MRI. It could be months & I feel like I might go crazy waiting, to see what's wrong with me.

Don't go crazy. I know it's easy to say "don't worry", but we all know who've been in limbo-land with doctors that not worrying is nearly impossible!

For me the numbness in face spreads little by little. When I shave I notice where I lost it next. It all still has feeling but maybe 1/2 as strong? My head & neck also. Left hand & forearm almost caught up to right this year. Hoped Ty would save me. Guess not.
