Default Neuritis? Neuralgia? Pinched nerve? Other?

I have pain on the back of my left hand, about a half inch diameter spot just before the knuckle of my index finger. It feels like a broken blood vessel or a bruise when it first happens.

It happened for the first time about a week ago, painful to the touch, and figured I'd whopped my hand against something. I expected a bruise to appear, but none did. And it went away.

It started again yesterday and is worse this morning. Nothing visible, little or no swelling, but if I press lightly on it or twist my hand a certain way, the pain curls my stomach.

Anybody have anything like this? I tried to google stuff, but my brain is still fried from Christmas. Hurts like sin.

Lightbulb

I do an ice pack on it 3 times a day for 20 min each. Cover the skin with a thin cloth.

I get hand pain sometimes from carrying grocery bags... it is amazing how they can strain something that you don't feel at the time.

If it continues, Salonpas OTC patches are great for this. They will take it down within a day! Sold at most drugstores. If you get them, put the opened envelop in a ziploc baggie to keep fresh. They come in 2 packets of 20.

You want the ones with methyl salicylate in them.
About $4.00 at Walgreen's etc for 40 patches. You can cut to convenient size for finger/hand areas.
(I use them frequently so I buy in bulk at Costco! )

Thanks! Though the ice pack will not be FUN today (below zero now, and the wind is blowing) I will certainly try it!

What a reminder to me of the pain that other people must suffer day in and day out, and I have just one little spot. Oh my.
