I had visual migraines while taking the birth control pill. Once I stopped, so did the strange light patterns (auras) of otherwise painless migraines.

Neuro's nurse called me back this afternoon and said that he had told her there was nothing I could do for it. Didn't really surprise me. I was more surprised that they actually called me back! I just wanted my records to reflect it so my sx were well documented.

Default It's strange how...

....things like this happen and I guess I don't give it much thought when it clears up just because I'm used to weird things going on with the ms.

After reading Snoopy's article (thanks for that), I realize that a few months ago when I was up in the middle of night, as I was watching TV, the tv screen gradually disappeared into a gray haze and little flashing lights were all around the outside edge. It lasts for around 20 minutes, then left gradually as it had appeared.

At the time, I was worried until it dissipated. Decided it wasn't anything to worry about. Hadn't thought of it since. And it hasn't happened again.

Now I realize what it was!

KELLY, Hope your vision is still clear tonight!!!!

Exactly! The first time it happened to me, I was in a shoe store with lots of mirrors and bright lights. Very freaky. Then it happened while I was doing dishes, but thankfully I'd had it happen previously, and the girl boarding in the same house with me told me they were called 'aura' with migraine. Thank goodness she educated me!

I've had OMs on and off for most of my life. I think they are beautiful, and when I get one I try to find time to go into a dark room and enjoy the fireworks.

The radiologist I worked for got them occasionally. No pain, but he had a hard time reading the xray films. He said that half his vision was gone -- that when he looked at a clock, he could only see the numbers 12-6, but not 6-12.

Be well, my friend.

I wonder, is that the same as Silent Migraines? I heard of people who get those too.

Kelly I woudl go to an eye specialist. It could be a detachment of the retina or vitreous, or too high eye pressure. Eyes are so important for us. Balance can be effected too. I hope it is minor.

I have had these, was told they were silent migraines. I think they are vascular and I know that they have responded to low dose timed release niacin. If I start to get one and take 250 mg of timed released niacin, the effect leaves quickly. I have had Optic Neuritis many years ago and that was different--blind spot and double vision lasting a long time, not responsive to anything much. If anyone tries Niacin be sure to get the timed released kind, as regular niacin can give you a startling flush.

I had ON for 8 years, waxing and waning, and then it went away as quickly as it came.

Well, it's gone away. Only to be replaced with a sinus headache! But I know what's causing that. A combination of the weather and the barometric pressure outside. No pretty colors....just pressure and pain.
