Default Esophegeal Spasms Anyone?

It started last night, and has worsened throughout the day. Right now if feels as if there is something stuck in my throat. Will the zanaflex or lyrica help?

I knew I had been feeling too good.

I get the hiccups quite often. Not painful but very annoying. I'm not sure if this is related to what you're experiencing but I get them quite often and never noticed before MS that I'd get them so frequently.

I get hiccups all the time, but thats the phrenic nerve. I too get the feeling that I have something stuck in my throat, even if I havent swallowed anything.

you must be very mindful of every bite you swallow. Dont eat while distracted. sit at the table and concentrate on your food, your nourishment, and sustanance. Slow down, taste your food and swallow eat bite thoughtfully till this passes. Mine comes and goes so I hope yours does too.

Yes Catch, I have that, especially after I have swallowed a big bite of food or taken a horsepill. It seems to get caught at my esophegous entry and won't go down my throat or come back up.

I've learned to eat, chew and swallow more carefully. Even with that, I will sometimes forget and cause it to happen again.

Yeah, I hate that feeling...make sure as stated above that you chew food into small portions, and lower your chin when you swallow...hope you feel better soon!!

Right, I've had spasms before, but only when I was eating.

This feeling of squeezing pressure and sense of something in my throat started two nights ago and has done nothing but increase since. I have barely been able to eat. The only thing that quiets this is to sit still, don't eat, drink sparingly, and don't speak. I'm home from work today because of how bad it got by last evening.

I can't get in to see my dr, and all i find on the net is the typical issues of spasms, I haven't found anything on spasms that continue even when I'm not eating. Crud, I guess I'll just go read my new Kindle and try not to cough--thats some unbelievably uncomfortable pain in the chest!

I love this disease, its so educational

If you are getting them and not eating at the time, you should be checked out by a ENT doctor. You may need to have a scope put down to look at your Esophagus tube.

Most likely MS spasms. Common, but check it out.

I take Clonazepam which helps with spasms but there are other meds like Levsin under your tongue, Bella-Donna and Phenobarbital. Try a Mylanta product to see if it is reflux of acid first.

I used to get spasms where the food, liquid or even a tiny pill would just stay in my mouth because all movement ceased in the food tube. I would wait until it started again to swallow. That has gone, TG. If I tried to swallow I would choke or lose my breathe. Very scary. And it hurt like a bunny.
