I have family members that want to compete, but I dont have to live with them. If I have a cold, they have the flu. If I have cancer, they need a heart transplant. they can ramp it up quickly. I cant imagine how frustrating it can be to live that way.
Have you tried in a non flare moment to talk to mom? My mom would understand for a few weeks, and then would resort to her old behavior. She simply cant think past her own needs, and get very upset if you dont put her needs ahead of hers. It can be quite the wrestling match. I hope you start feeling better soon. |
My mom is extremely stubborn. She gets an idea in her head it's hard to get her to change it...but then she'll change it suddenly without telling you.
She had that head injury in '57, and I dont know what her personality was like before that, since I wasnt born yet, but her sister told me that my mom was already kind of a grumpy person before the head injury and that she was a bit harder to deal with after she got her head whacked. Her sister said my mom's personality didnt really change, she just got more stubborn. She's become a bit of a narcissist in her old age. We have to take her out to eat a lot, otherwise she throws temper tantrums. (my dad just told me how much we spent going out to eat...we could have bought a REALLY NICE used car for what we spent eating out) I like going out to eat. (really want to go out to eat, but not ready to deal with the ice that's still on the ground right now with my wobbly walking) I just want to stay home more often. So, I've actually kind of enjoyed that part of my staying home the last few weeks with this MS flare. I can sit around in my jammies and watch tv. My mom doesnt seem to understand the fun of sitting around in your jammies and eating in front of the tv at home. I'm hoping things will be better with whatever is going on with me so I can at least go to my favorite greek restaurant on thursday. (that's lentil soup day. I'm hungry for that) But until then, I'm actually happy with staying home. My poor dad tho. He's had to take my mom out a lot the last few weeks. He wants to stay home too. She wont let him. He's got fatigue from his heart condition, but she doesnt seem to care if he's tired. I dont think she truly understands what fatigue is. |
