They had some at Costco, and they're a nice blue color that I like. So I asked my dad.

He gave me this look and said something about a rollator would make me "more disabled". I looked over at my mom, who has THREE rollators (one's a piece of crap, one she's currently using, and the other one is too big for our house and we only use it outside, otherwise I'd hijack one of hers) and watched her practically RUN into her bedroom, while pushing her rollator in front of her to get something. She doesnt look "more" disabled. She looks like the rollator is helping her get around without a lot of stumbling or falling.

I am not really that comfortable using a cane. I feel unsteady, there's been a couple of times where I felt like I was going to fall backwards today, and I do NOT like that at all. Falling sucks, and it kinda hurts if you fall just the right/wrong way. I highjacked my mom's rollator a little bit ago to show my dad that it's easier to use, and he still thinks it'll make me "more" disabled.

Screw that, my mom has been using rollators for at least 7yrs with her bad knees and bad back and I can tell that she walks better with one. After trying hers, *I* feel like I can walk better with one.

Right now I'm hesitant to walk, because I'm really not wanting to chance falling down. I dont have any money. My dad was nice last week and got me a shower seat so I could at least wash my hair without getting tired and falling down, so I dont understand why he wont help with getting me a basic rollator from Costco that's less than $100. It's not like I asked him to go to the mobility aide store and get me the Cadillac of electric scooters or something.

I just want to be able to walk easier and hopefully build up the muscles that are tired and weak right now. Using that stupid stick is getting kind of frustrating.

I dont think I need my doctor or physical therapists permissions (or a Rx) to get one.

What is it about people who are capable of walking normally thinking that using a mobility aide makes you "more" disabled? It's like a pair of glasses. If you need to use your glasses to read, you use them, right? If I need an aluminum frame with wheels and handlebars to walk easier, I want to use it.

It just feels like he's making this harder than it is.

With a doctor's RX, Health plans will help on purchase. This can help make te difference between a "carppy" one and a good one. I had an excellent one that was more than 4x price of one insurance gave me. Now I knw, to buy stuff myself as theirs can be cheap junk. Does out of network affect it (deductible) or can they provide what you want. Go for it, made my life easier.

If it's the cost he's concerned about, and you have nice thrift stores nearby, check out those places.
The Goodwill Superstores around here usually has nice looking items like that at times.

Maybe you can convince him on the safety aspect - especially if you might fall... more for safety & balance .. due to the new leg weakness issues...

the one I want at Costco, I've actually seen in person (had to point out to the Costco Pharmacy guy that they put the wheels on backwards...they had the front wheels on the back, and the back wheels on the front. The front wheels were the ones that move, the back wheels were fixed.)

I thought it was a fairly decent rollator. Wheels are bigger than the ones on my mom's rollator that she uses in the house.

When I went back and they'd finally put the wheels on it correctly, I looked at it, because at the time I was thinking we might want to think about getting my mom a new one. Now I want it. Mostly because it doesnt have the wire basket on it, but a fabric pouch under the seat. (things fall out of my mom's basket all the time) That, and it's blue.

Online at Costco, it's $89, that's with a $25 rebate. Not sure if they have same deal at the store.

It's not a cost issue with my dad. He was all for me wanting to spend $50 on a cane I saw online last night, I didnt get it, decided to look and see if I can find something locally for a cane so I can look at it and feel it before buying...but I wanted that cane and he said it would have been ok to get it. (it was cool...it had a silver handle and the shaft of the cane was decorated in red, white and blue. I love patriotic stuff)

So, I dont think money was the issue. He was just in a bad mood because my mom was nagging him. It's just frustrating that I felt he was blowing me off and not really listening and then telling me it would make me more disabled. That's dumb. It'll be more helpful than the stick is right now.

I'm tired. Trying to walk with that cane is frustrating and actually makes me more tired. I almost feel better holding onto the wall like I did when I had vertigo.

I'm kind of hoping my dad will come home from Costco with one of those rollators for me. Not counting on it tho.

I'm hoping to go get my hair cut tomorrow. He's got to drive me downtown for that. Maybe he'll stop at one of the medical supply stores on the way home and let me go shopping for a rollator there, but those stores charge over $200 for some of their stuff. I think I can get by with the one from Costco.

ok, my dad got home and explained why he didnt bring me a Costco rollator.

He wants to take me to the medical supply store to get one there, because they'll assemble the walker for us and make sure all the brakes are tight and nothing will come loose.

So, I have to wait till tomorrow or monday (the two med-supply stores are closed on sunday) to get my rollator. I have to go check the times they're open.

My dad wasnt being a big meanie, he was being a lazy butt. He wants something no assembly required. I think I kind of knew that was why. I kind of like the idea of going to the pharmacy/supply store anyways, because they help fit you to whatever it is you need. (I'm going to look for a patriotic cane while I'm there too) Other good thing about the store, they have more color selection I think. Hopefully. (I may have to buy some decals.)

He did bring in the ginormous extra rollator that my mom has and put it downstairs for me to use. That thing is huge. I have to be really careful going thru my bedroom door with it so it doesnt leave a gouge in the woodwork. But, yeah, it's so much easier to walk with that thing! Cant wait to get one that's a little smaller tho.

I had to clean that rollator off. It had a bit of garage dust on it. Hoping the wheels werent too nasty for our new carpet. (it doesnt have the mileage that my mom's beat up "outside" walker has) but I had to scrub off the seat and all the metal and the handlebars. Everything had a patina of dust on it. Not bad, it hadnt been out there long... Then I had to tighten the screws because the handlebars were coming apart.

The Costco walker looks very nice. 6" wheels and it has a very nice saddlebag, a nice feature. The price is also very good. Blue or Red.

we ended up getting me a rollator at the pharmacy where my dad likes to get stuff like that for my mom. We actually bought two rollators. One for me, and a new one for my mom to use when we go shopping (which I'll use too if I ever go out shopping again)

The rollators at Costco are really nice too, great for what they're ask for, but my dad wanted to get them at the pharmacy, and since he was paying...I think mostly it's because there they actually have a tech that measures the height that the rollators should be at for each person, and they check to make sure the brakes and wheels and everything is solidly put together before they let you leave the store.

Their credit card machines were down when were there. They couldnt take credit card transactions, so it was cool that we already have used them for a lot of things (stair lift, at least 3 electric scooters for my mom, other rollators) that they just billed us for the rollators, and once their credit card machine came back up (whenever that was) they could run the card then. We already had a history of being customers (and they've billed us for things like the stair lift and battery replacements for my mom's scooter)

That made it a lot easier.

I am feeling a lot better, my right leg and hip are just weak. Hopefully the PT will help and I wont need to use the rollator much or at all.
