I have been on betaseron about 2 1/2 months now and it STILL hasent cured my MS I know that wasnt even funny. My question is does any one have any problem with itching. It isnt a real rash but the itching is driving me nuts (short trip I know). It doesnt seem to be any less one the off night that I dont do my shot. Tonite I took 2 benadryl to see if that helps, I wonder if 2 is enough?
Any input folks?

For a moment before I opened your post I thought you meant it I thought I was going to have to deliver a devastating blow!

Do you mean itching around the injection site, or is it generalised on your whole body? I get both from time to time. The doc gave me cortisone cream for the site reactions, but I haven't figured out the rest of the body yet.

Mind you, I have been on Beta for five years now, and it is a lot better than it was to start with, so perhaps it will improve given time. Can you call yor neuro's office and enquire what is the best way to cope with it?

I can tell you from personal experience that when my liver enzymes are elevated, there is all over itching that nothing seems to help. My PCP started me on milk thistle to help bring the enzymes down and it did the trick. Every time I try to lower the dose, however, the itching resumes and the site reactions get more pronounced.

We are now doing my LFT's every month. As long as I stay at 500mg of Milk Thistle morning and night, things seem to stay under control.

Have you had your blood checked since you started on the beta?

Thanks for everyones responses, after all this time I still have trouble with hurry up and wait. Cherie I never thought about the liver enzyme thing I have an appointment the 10 of October and will have a complete blood teast at that time. I not know if they check liver function but I will ask the to do that. I left a message with the Nero but as per the norm they still havent called back. I would change to some one else how ever the only other one on my insurance is in Salt Lake or Portland Oregon about 400 miles either way.

I've had such a roller coaster ride with elevated LFTs (Liver Function Tests) since even before I went on meds, that my PCP now has my bloods drawn monthly and just fires off a copy to my neuro. Also have a CBC done then. some people on therapy end up dropping their white counts or red blood cell counts over time. Mine are low but are staying pretty consistent.

Maybe your primary care could order the labs so that the results are in before the October 10 appointment.
