You can ask for thermal imaging instead of the mammo. It's safer and much less painful plus they get all the info they need. Not painful at all in fact.

Are you gals telling me you still wear bras with wires in them? I had to give that up 20 years ago. I don't want to sound preachy, but I do pretty well with a bra from a catalogue which has a sort of firm cloth "wire"--not metal. I too feel uncomfortable without support,
and this cloth "wire" is better. But I love to get the darn bra off, too. Wish I were not a 38 C.

Is thermal imaging widely available? It was not available in the Seattle area five years or so ago when I had my last mammogram. I never had too much pain with the mammos, due to not having lumps, but I don't like the radiation. My mother's breast cancer was discovered not from a mammogram but from doctor palpation of the breasts. She lived 25 years after that.

I always had sore/painful breasts at period time and also when I started peri menepause...ouch.

I hope it's just a natural change and will go away soon..

When I was young they always said when I got older then I'd be glad I was never big. It's one thing or the other, isn't it. Happy at different times I'm not so pleased now I wouldn't have minded a little more back in the day.

Well, it is not available at my lovely hospital. the good news is...it is too close to that time of the month so they had to put off the squishy for a couple of weeks. He did the exam yesterday and tells me the same thing I already knew. it appears to be a nerve pain.

There is a nerve that runs along the side right where the pain is. He doesn't want to blame it on MS so he is insiting that I go get the squishy squishy so we can try to find the cause.

I get the stabbing pain like someone is jamming a hatpin in my nether region sometimes, and have had them in the side of my breast. It always takes me by surprise and makes me yelp out loud the first time it happens and then I am ready for it when it comes again. Sometimes it lasts for a few days and sometimes I get the jab just once or twice.

(I hate when that happens in the grocery store!)

It's a nerve sending a false signal to your brain. It could be stabbing, tingling or prickling, water dripping on you when there is no water, heat when there is no source, cold when there is no source, etc. It can stay for awhile or disappear as fast as it comes. I try to trick it when it happens, by putting a piece of ice on the spot for a few minutes, or a hot cloth. For some reason that can work, but sometimes you just have to wait it out.

For me, it wasn't worth going on any med since it went away as fast as it came most of the time. When it doesn't go away, they classify it as a form of neuralgia. Some people have been treated with amitriptaline or gabapentin with success and some got no help from the meds.

Sorry to hear you are getting stabbed...and I hope it resolves soon.

I went for my mammogram today. And an ultrasound and the results are in... we think its a spinal lesion causing the nerve pain.

But, the tests themselves not only caused pain and bruises. They also caused all of the nerves in my chest and back to go crazy. It hurts so bad I have been icing them down every hour or so. I am now wide awake but oh my ouchness! The veins are now huge and very noticeable, it hurts to walk, hurts to shower and god forbid I lift my cup to my lips to take a sip of water.

You ever wish your doctors would just listen to you when you yell them about your new nerve pain? Did I not say it was a nerve thing??
