Most of the practitioners in my clinic have voiced having difficulty at some time or another with the Dr. Oz show, and his "advice". It does seem that what he says and/or promotes is all too often incorrect or only partially true.

When patients accept what they see on his show as fact, it can make re-educating them difficult and time consuming. This often involves obtaining evidence through peer reviewed studies on some subjects and going through it with patients to convince them, so that they can at least make an informed choice.

Having to do so is absolutely necessary though because for some people and their conditions, the advice given on the show can be down right dangerous and/or contra-incidated...especially when patients don't check with their PCP or specialist before adopting it.

It seems that for some people, what they see on TV is easily taken as factual, and their critical thinking goes right out the window.

With love, Erika

I have a major problem with Dr. Oz. I've posted about it a few times already.

Even on a simple topic...he contradicts himself in the same SHOW!
It seems to me he does not even read or study his topics.
Once when he had Dr. Weil and Deepak Chopra on together, the show was useless! Wasted time, toys for props, and I felt it insulted both of those highly respected men! I haven't watched him in a year. And I don't miss all those women slobbering kissing him for a whole hour! Give me a break!

He will only go so far... short of useful, because he has to
satisfy his sponsors. Dr. Gupta on CNN also is highly diluted and watered down, because of CNN drug sponsors. (I found one review on this mentioning Merck.)

I've only seen clips of those two shows on the net because I don't watch TV. My impression was/is that these two "doctors", aren't...that they are send rate actors, caught up in their own fame, that has been cultivated through drama and sensationalism. And of course their business obviously centers around promoting the products of their sponsors, as you say Mrs. D.

I also think that the women who fawn over Dr. Oz are also actors that have been paid to do so. Surely normal people are not that out of control of themselves...and if they are, they need more help than Dr. Oz could ever hope to provide.

I'd gimp myself right out of any doctor's office that behaved the way that they do; never to return. How these "doctors" can be seen as credible by anyone, is beyond me.

With love, Erika
