Default MMJ study and me

I enrolled to be a MMJ lab rat. Getting registered took about an hour and I was approved same day. It will take some time to grow the plants but the program will start in September (unless Gov. Jan Brewer can stop it, she is trying and I hope she fails).

A caregiver will deliver 2 1/2 ounces every 2weeks, various varieties and I will sample and fill out a survey as to my reactions.

I am not going to smoke but I do have a vaporizer. I also plan to make cannabutter. The clinic will provide me with recipes too.

I am having trouble on the web finding a link to the variety used for Multiple Sclerosis. It is supposed to have more of a body affect rather than a heady feeling.

Does anyone know the name of the MS marijuana? If I can give the research lab a specific name, they will obtain the seeds and start growing the appropriate plant.

But I will try the other varieties. Some are good for headaches, spasms, nerve pain.

I will keep looking for the specific name. I saw it on a documentary but did not have the smarts to jot it down at the time.

i see "auntie em" listed as helping with mm. my compassionate care club had some strain that had chocolate in the name but i cant remember it. so far i have not found any pain relief in my experimentation with some mm edibles and tincture, and its quite expensive too. good luck, and i will let you know if i find a particular strain that helps or is purported to help. pm me for the webpage if you want it, its really nothing more than a contact form...

The MJ is being given to me for free in the study.

I will PM you for the link. I found a link that has a huge amount of information but it is almost in recreational form as opposed to medical.

Most pharma meds are not effective for me and MMJ might be a waste as well. So few states have it legal. The edibles in Denver are well developed in their dispensaries but the trick will be how much is the right amount.

I am excited to try though. I can drop out of the study anytime I wish.

There are many good resources online. This is just one of many:
http://ripatients.org/tips/strainguide/ Just Google "medical marijuana for ms" and you will find a lot of good resources.

However, MMJ is almost as individual as are MS patients. I prefer sativas, the headier strains, because a) I don't want to be stuck on the couch all day and b) they often give me relief via the nice high that distracts me from the pain/spasms/etc. Unless I am unable to get to sleep, I rarely reach for an indica first.

Lots of information. I did not even know there were two different categories of MJ. Live and learn.

I have been waiting a very long time to see a post like this...

It makes my heart smile to see the approach you are taking.

Medical Cannabis has been proven to heal Multiple Sclerosis in rat models.

I'll break down some knowledge for you..

All mammals have what is called an "Endocannabinoid System". We have receptors in our brain (CB1 and CB2) that recognize the cannabinoids. We actually produce cannabinoids, but they have found that people with auto-immune diseases have a malfunctioning Endocannabinoid system. SO WE are technically LACKING these cannabinoids, so you will find, when you put them in your body, that it feels like your insides become normal like again.

I have been trying to find a study for this to be a rat model for them because I have researched this plant up and down.

THREE MAIN CANNABINOIDS THAT HEAL MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS:
1.CBD (Cannabidiol)
2. CBN (Cannabiniol)
3. THC (Tetrahydrocannibinol)

The research done on these three cannabinoids is beautiful.. this is what they have found as a SCIENTIFIC FACT...

In the rats that had 'MS' they injected those three main cannabinoids into the rats bodies..

Doing so they found that the cannabinoids were stimulating Astrocytes in the brain, when Astrocytes are stimulated they create MYELIN in DE-MYELINATED areas of the CNS!!!!

YUP thats right folks. Documented evidence.

I've tried this and it works. I don't get euphoric like at all, it literally makes my insides feel like what they did before ms. It stops my neuropathy immediately, calms the spasticity and spasms, makes my tremors stop, and has even helped with walking.

I wish you the best of luck, please keep us updated! I'm very excited for you!!

I've been doing mmj for about 18 months now, smoking every day. My son grows it for me. I'd like to say it has helped, but of course I won't know unless I quit and my sx get worse. I have not had a relapse since I started smoking regularly. I am also on Copaxone until this month. Again, not sure if the copaxone kept my relapses down, or if the combination does.

I wouldn't worry too much about whether to go with an indica or other variety. I will say it seems to help with some pain management (less spasms, and no RLS), it also helps immensely with the nausea I get as a result of nerve damage.

For some people, edibles work great. I can't take edibles, the taste is awful (think chocolate grass clippings), and I get no relief.

My son has sever fibromyalgia (and possibley MS) and he gets great relief from the cookies and stuff he makes.

Are you familiar with "weedtracker.com"? They get some good discussions going on and there are many on there who have ms or other neuro issues.

Good luck with the trial!

bumping up.

Since the more recent overstone, I have backed off on my night brownie to see how I feel.

I will probably go back and forth on usage.

Last night's spasms got dosed with Baclofen. I was too lazy to go to the kitchen. The bathroom was closer.

"@Surfer. Do you suspect that the different results could be that although you thought you purchased the same strain that in fact, you got a different variety or was your reactions just based on a different day?"

No, I'm referring to actually smoking from the same bud. I think that a lot has to do with a person's mood, pain level, etc. each time it's utilized. The same bud can produce different results.

I think I've mentioned it before, that sometimes a Sativa will knock me out and an Indica will raise my spirits. (opposite of what one would expect). Try your Blue Dream sometime and see if you like it. It shouldn't be a dramatic difference to you.

It makes sense to make your own butter to monitor the strength. Btw, in case you didn't know it, you just need inexpensive trimmings to make butter, not the buds.
