This started about 2 years ago, and it comes and goes.

I don't know if it's the MS (but hey, it's a nice scapegoat for things you can't explain going on right?).

The other day, I finished work (I work from home), closed up 'shop'. Yay it was Friday, weekend was here. I should have had not a care in the world, I had a very successful day working, and was on a 'high' so to speak...

Then I got slammed with this feeling of 'dread' in the pit of my stomach. All of a sudden. I don't know why. It was fleeting, but not the first time I've had this same 'dread' feeling punch me in the stomach out of the blue.

I can't explain why I'm having such feelings out of the blue, there seems to be no rhyme or reason.

Anyone else get smacked with strong emotional changes as such?

Yes I do Laura and it usually happens after I've had an extremely good day. It's like, I didn't deserve this great day and I'll probably never have another one. Waiting for the axe to fall.

It doesn't happen often but, often enough.

Thanks Sally, it's a relief to hear I'm not alone in this. It has been the case of it happening when I have very good days consistently too.

I do too Laura, I have frequent feelings of dread too. I keep thinking it's just depression, but it comes on so quick. It can happen at anytime, sometimes many times a day. I have frequent times when I just cry, sometimes it seems like my body is trying to stress relieve itself. Hugs to you and Sal!

Isn't this what is referred to as the "pseudobulbar affect" or emotional liability in MS? From what I've read it's quite common but can be very disturbing when it happens to you out of the blue.

This could be a blood sugar dip. Try eating an energy bar, or something like that and see if it gets better.

Sudden changes in blood sugar can cause emotional changes.
During the night it can cause nightmares.

Thank you for the recommendations and ideas (blood sugar's an interesting one... I'm probably at my lowest right before supper time in fact), and for the additional support as well.

I've had two severe dips in the past month myself. I have a glucometer now and test. Both times were late afternoon, after running errands. I became very irritable and snappish, and started to shake. This was preceded by some sweating.
Both times I had trouble inserting the strip into the glucometer. I am normally never shakey. And this result was 85 and not that low either.

When I have had my long glucose tolerance tests at the hospital I was both times a basket case by the end of it...crying and other emotional responses.

I think low blood sugar should be considered when sudden changes in mood or emotion occur out of the blue.

People who are becoming insulin resistant, can get this. It is a precursor to developing type II diabetes later. When sugar cannot get into the cells, (resistance) then the symptoms rear up.

I get them. I hate this stupid disease!

My goodness I use to get those when I was working not a great feeling...Now I can't work or enjoy any of my old life that feeling left me....My highs are gone along with the sudden lows....
