Default Breakthrough research holds clues about MS cause

Humans one .... mice nil.

At last here's some data that's about people with MS, and not just mice with MS-like conditions.

In one of the largest human genetic studies ever undertaken, scientists have identified the major common genetic variants that contribute to the cause of the devastating neurologic disease, multiple sclerosis (MS).......... The study confirmed the presence of up to 57 MS genes with a remarkable pattern that shows that the reason some people get MS and others don't is largely due to subtle, inherited differences in immune function.

And from another paper on the same topic; something that we already assumed has now been confirmed ....

Earlier this year Dr Taylor published a study that showed higher vitamin D levels reduced the chance of relapses in people with MS.

I currently take 8,000 - 10,000 iu's of vitamin D every day. The brand I use is by Biotics research corp. It is called Bio-D-Mulsion Forte which is liquid and comes in a 1 oz bottle which costs $20. I've been using this for about 1 1/2 years now and my D level is at the higher end of normal range. It was extremly low before I started. My neuro thinks the drops are better because they are easily absorbed in the digestive tract.

Cool Anne.
While all these Scientists are patting themselves on the back for this discovery, I'm hoping it leads them to a cure sooner.

Neat! My vitamin D level was at least twice the optimal level. I haven't relapsed since a couple months after diagnosis (in 2008).

Great info! Take that mice!

Hear about the break through last night with Leukemia? 3 outta 3 patient's tumors shrunk to nothing & got their life back! Very promising for all.
Vitamin D - level checked 3? weeks ago = 95. 2000i.u./day, sun every day. Told Dr I felt best taking 8000i.u./day but stopped cause my level was 125. Started the 2000/day when it came down to 85 6? months ago.

I've never had my Vitamin D checked EVER -until May 2011. I'm indoors most of the winter months due to nasty weather. During the summer my Dermatologist says use sun-screen.

It was a very low level of Vitamin D..29. Yikes! My Endo doctor has been giving me instructions on how to increase. Can't win around here. She checks my low Thyroid and low sugar levels too.

She is a very good doctor. It's me with the low everything but BP. which goes very low and then to moderately high in a wink.

I've been noticing feeling a bit stronger lately. I think it must be due to the 5000IU of D3 I've been taking for the last 2 months!!

My Vit D was 23 at diagnosis, I now take a supplement daily, and at last check, it was only up to 38. I don't seem to be able to get it any higher. However, my neuro doesn't seem to think much about it being low.

In case anyone here hasn't seen it, MrsD has a wonderful Vitamin D thread in the Vitamins, Nutrients, Herbs and Supplements Forum: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread92116.html
