I swear that the ragweed that's growing in the field behind our house is trying to kill me!

What sucks, is that my aunt (she lives across the street) had been keeping the weeds down behind my house by putting the cuttings from all her bushes and trees and my family's bushes and trees down in the trees that border the creek that runs behind my house. She didnt just dump it, she'd lay it out in a way that kept the poison oak and the ragweed from growing. Plus, it was food for all the deer that live back there.

Our next door neighbors (old, partially senile neighbor who's a busybody, and his wife who is a bit of a <bad word> who is also a busybody...think Mrs Kravitz on "Bewitched"...that's both of them) complained...thinking my aunt was just dumping it in a big pile. What they thought was a big pile of her cuttings that she'd been putting down there, turns out to be a pile of dirt that the builders left at the end of the neighbor's yard that never got flattened out. In the spring, it sprouts weeds.

So, earlier this year, my aunt quit taking her cuttings down there. She'd been controlling the weeds this way for the past nine years. Those neighbors have been living next to us for about 6. They never saw it the way it was before she started controlling the weeds.

Couple of weeks ago, they started complaining that the lawn company had stopped cutting the weeds. (Ummm...no Dear Neighbors...it wasnt the lawn company doing that...It was my Aunt J.) Because they complained to her about her "dumping" her cuttings, she quit doing it to make them happy. Now they're peeved that no one is "mowing" the weeds. (aunt is also the reason that there is grass growing back there now, and it's not a pile of mud anymore. She's on the HOA board and got the HOA to trim down a bunch of the volunteer trees back there too)

Now, because Mr and Mrs "Kravitz" next door complained, I'm having problems with my ragweed allergy for about the first time in 8yrs. The "Kravitz's" are the only people that complained. Rest of the neighbors are mad that J isnt being allowed to compost her tree clippings now. (Aunt J is kind of a clean freak. She also trims a few of the neighbor's trees and bushes for fun. Not anymore now that she cant put the clippings down in the trees behind my house. Other neighbors are mad they dont get their trees clipped for free anymore.)

We also cant walk around at the ends of our yards anymore. The poison ivy and poison oak is out of control. Too bad we cant get the "Kravitz's" to believe that my aunt was the reason it looked so nice behind the houses. (they give us the hairy eyeball every time we tell them they're the reason it's overgrown back there now)

I HATE ragweed season again. Wish I could breathe tonight!

stupid neighbors.

Following this thread, I got very brave and tried salmon. I used to eat tuna YEARS ago, and I've just taken the 'avoid all' since my last reaction to shellfish.

I can eat salmon!!!! :yahoo: I have a can of tuna to try as well. I'm sure I'll be okay with that too.

This opens many doors as far as my food choices go.. I stopped eating red meat 3+ years back, so I was quite limited in what I could eat for meats.

So now I can have my chicken, turkey, vegetarian substitutes like soy, and fish! Going to try haddock, cod etc as well. :)

(just had to share - I'm so glad I can eat SOME fish, though shellfish is a major major no no, throat tightens just from smelling it).

Which brings up a good point. Are these true allergies or adverse reactions?

I haven't been on many of the medications you folks have listed so I wonder if that is part of it. The more you try the more likely you will find some that you can't tolerate. The only thing I have a problem with so far is Codeine and it is an adverse reaction, n/v for hours, but not a true allergy.

Of course if we genotyped everyone medications that react or don't react to certain enzymes in our bodies could narrow down the ones that are likely to either not work for us or cause problems. Something to think about for those that are sensitive to many things although I believe it is an out of pocket expense it might be worth it.
