Default Brain talk 1

Well it looks like the old brain talk may be up soon. Lets take a poll here. Who's staying, leaving or trying to be a member of both?

I'm staying here, especially if BT1 has the same Mods and
Mod rules in place. I've never been banned from there, but
I just don't like it...The Gastapo Mods.

Not sure yet. This feels kind of nice with a smaller group. I miss the old names but I can keep better track of who people are and what is going on with them. It's way more personal. I can hardly keep track of new people coming in all the time.

I try to remember that was me 6 years ago. It's possible I didn't put myself out there too.

Let's stay here.

Why would we want to take a chance again on a forum whose owner (?) let down so many people who depended on the forum so much for support and information--and he didn't even post but one message in more than two months?

I don't know all the issues that were going on with the old forum, but we might as well try to rebuild it here, where there's no reason to expect that the forum members will be so cavalierly treated again.

I mean, it happened once, it might happen again at any time. I wouldn't even hold my breath that that forum will ever come back. I see no sign of it.

I'm happy to be in both forums - I don't think we should 'knock' John Lester until we know what really happened. My understanding is that all his work was voluntary, and he even put his own money in at times.

I like this forum too, and I'm grateful to those that set it up. I also joined another one before this one came up - I think if people have the time, they should support as many of the forums, and the people that visit them, as they can.

I am seeing people here from several different sites that I hang out in, and I think it is a good idea to get to know a few, in case of future 'crashes' - if one goes down, you'll have somewhere to go. I don't think this is being disloyal, just practical.

I am concerned that when BT1 comes back up, that some of the people that haven't found their way here, may feel they've been deserted, when it's not their fault.

I am going to reserve judgement until BT1 is ACTUALLY up and running.

Since we all got an email from JL, and he did keep us informed as best as he could, I will go back to BT1 for sure.

According to a tech friend, the OS for the MAC server was obsolete. It took time to get the new software. Right now the link doesn't work because thousands of BT1 people got emails and the server probably can't handle the load. It will be back, just not anytime soon, like in the next week or so, it make take a bit longer. It's a very complicated setup.

I was over on the chat the other day - it's quite flashy and user friendly. I didn't see anyone I knew, so I lurked, but my username worked and it was a ray of hope.

Sooner or later with the email going out our old friends may start trickling back, and I need to touch base, feel part of the community of limbolanders again.

Why blame an individuals for a machine failure? This is a man who has a full-time job, who travels extensively for his work and is volunteering his time to serve us. It's not personal people - it's just the way it is. These things take time.

I never got any e-mail from John Lester. Just a blank screen at the site for weeks and weeks. At one time there was a message dated July 20--later there was another message, which also disappeared. No further updates.

I'm not bashing anyone. The site was wonderful and I'm sure we should be thankful to him.

My point is that if this extremely long downtime could happen--with VERY insufficient updates and with no effort to direct people elsewhere temporarily who needed a forum NOW--it could happen again.

Why risk that kind of disruption again? This Braintalk 2 site is here, so let's give it a chance. Those who never made it here but who return to Braintalk 1 (if it returns) can be invited here.

If John Lester does not have the backup, personnel-wise or equipment-wise, to avoid a more than two-month breakdown, then despite his intentions and despite all he has done in the past, we can't expect this not to happen again.

On the other hand, I'm not sure if the guy who put up this new site will leave it once Braintalk 1 returns (if it does).
