This stupid cold is still hanging on! barely, but enough to make me miserable still. its much better, but holy cow! So, I was wiggling and sniffling in public. Of course I hammed it up when nosey neighbors wanted to stop and chat (sorry I have a horrible cold ACHOO! and they ran away) So, I did 2 miles of wiggling today.

Tons of missing cats in the neighborhood and we have a coyote family on the loose. DH went way up the mountain to investigate with a DEP officer. Bears are hungry now and looking to eat as much as possible before they sleep, and its on the heels of hunting season, so its a dangerous time to step off the road way. I wear my bright yellow construction worker vest, my bear whistle and have a locked and loaded helper in my fanny pack. I walked alone this morning and it was a bit scary, but since its cooler, I was not as blind.

Get out there and wiggle something in public my beauties!

Wouldn't it be smarter to wiggle it inside or closer to safety, during hungry bear season:rolleyes:??:eek::eek:

dmplaura 10-12-2011 01:26 PM

Good job Dej, and maybe carry a paintbrush and a jar of honey, dab some along the way on trees. That'll keep the bears happy and docile! ... okay maybe not the best idea.

Sorry to hear that the cold is still hanging on  how miserable!

I had my coloscopy follow up this morning. I nearly fainted, again. There I was lying with wet facecloth on my forehead, rolled to my left side. I don't do well with that procedure, and I think the whopping doses of medication - including the dreadful prednisone, didn't help matters any either.

Our weather's supposed to get rainy and a bit milder. Not looking forward to it. Hope the MS doesn't flare up even more so with the weather system moving in. I've done a lot of walking today already, and I'm about to go out and do some more. Need to burn off this bottled energy.

Dejibo 10-13-2011 07:09 AM

drizzly rain, but i decided to get out there anyway. bundled up and hiked out. Half way mark I was sweating to beat the band, and decided to open my jacket, and drop my hood and let the drizzle cool me off. Kept a good pace, and 2 miles done. I decided to not climb rabbit hollow due to being so sick. Dont want to push too hard just yet. Sweating in a chilled rain is always a wild feeling.

Im showered and ready to start this day.

Debbie D 10-13-2011 10:30 AM

Tuesday I worked in the front yard, blowing the leaves off of the grass and into the street for pickup. I was soaked when I was done...how can that be when I wasn't raking them? I ended up raking for awhile just to even up the piles and get the stragglers off of the grass...

Wednesday I washed a few windows and then decided to mow the lawn...it was very warm and I overheated and paid the price...broke out in a rash, and then the leg pain...still feeling funky this morning...

This is the kind of exercise, I miss being able to NOT do..:D:p:D

Did my usual sissy stretches and exercises this morning..:)

karousel 10-13-2011 03:45 PM

Today I met with a personal trainer for my first session. It took forever for her to take my medical history and problems. Our conclusion - I'm a mess. ;) She then showed me some exercises to start out with. She was wonderful. She really listened to my limitations and showed me modified ways of doing some of the exercises. I set up my second session with her for next week but plan to go to the gym inbetween to use some of the machines and do the exercises she showed me. I am feeling that work I did today though!!

sabimax 10-13-2011 04:14 PM

woohooo everyone...

Karousel cool having a trainer that way showing stuff with any limitations.. that can help...

hugsss all

dmplaura 10-13-2011 10:04 PM

Wiggled a lot today! The rain stayed away for the most part, and the skies were overcast! Weeeeee! My eye got a bit of a rest today! :D

I carry my Nintendo 3Ds with me everywhere and it's pedometer clocked me in at over 15k steps today. I was a busy woman! Had my doctor's appointment, she has me off work for the next month 'resting' during this relapse. Thinks it's best for me to de-stress and focus on 'me' time. Sounds good to me. Plus the eye's still botched and I'm still taking the prednisone which my body loathes.

Glad to see so many of you out and wiggling!

Dejibo 10-14-2011 08:36 AM

@kar congrats! way to go! bring home enough advice for the class please :D

@sal hang in there. your sissy exercises are enough. just keep at it.

@the rest of you, my beauties, get out there and wiggle something in public.

I started off late this morn. Got 1 mile out and...it started to rain. not a drizzle, I mean a heavy rain. Should I turn back? well, Im already wet, and the way back is a dirt mud road, the way forward is pavement. So, I trudged onward. Skipped Rabbit Hollow, and headed for home. Soaking ringing wet, 3 neighbors pull up, roll down their windows and want to chat! "you look a little wet!" oh! hahahaha! Beeotch! let me get home! Dripping and wringing wet, i went right to the shower and am all shiney clean for my day.

now to find some trouble to get into....where is vik when I need her? :)

dmplaura 10-14-2011 03:46 PM

I walked over 10k in the drizzling rain today. I was excited that the grocery store FINALLY had lean ground turkey so I can make Greek style turkey burgers for dinner tonight. :)

I was going to go and purchase new shoes. My last pair I paid a premium for, and in a year's time I wore through the 4 layer soles to the point where only the inside foam layer and cloth under my heel was providing 'resistance' while walking (perhaps that explains the noted increase in Charlie Horses - fact, I had one today while in a store, ouch!!!).

So I was going to walk up to the same place where I'd spent a small fortune on the shoes I wore through. When I go about planning/making a huge purchase, I always donate what I can to charity at the same time. Today was a stack of textbooks from University (some I paid $50+ for, not cheap, but I never open them so they've been collecting dust here - better for a needy student).

Long story short, while donating, I found the CUTEST pair of running shoes for $2.99!!! They're a bit 'roomy', but my size. The roomy is good because I can just purchase Dr. Scholls (etc) liners for them. :D

Thrifting is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

karousel 10-14-2011 04:05 PM

Even though I was a bit sore from yesterday's workout I made it to the gym today and did 20 minutes on the eliptical. I had too much caffeine this morning so I did 3 miles in that 20 minutes! Then I went our for more coffee with my girlfriends. :D

sabimax 10-14-2011 05:59 PM

The walking and playing at playgrounds with the little ones the last few days, has my heel feeling like it has planter f.... whatever the word is... pain on bottom of heel... worked a full day.. then PT for my muscle spasm neck and back.. today was the best it felt she said... going to help out at the football game tonight working in the concession stand first half of game... bout it for this painful foot since I work tomorrow too...
hugss all good moving all

NeuroNixed Craig 10-15-2011 12:19 AM

I had to smile to myself reading this thread because, "working out" is no longer part of my vocabulary. However, I have purchased and movement physical therapy certified "peddler" to at least try a movement routine with my legs and arms.

It is one solid steel and chrome piece with the non-skid block on the four supporting legs, adjustable straps to keep my feet on the pedals and a tension screw. I can sit in a chair and pedal while at my desk or watching TV. Placing it on a table allows me to use it for my arms. It's a nice piece of solid inexpensive equipment, BUT I have yet to have the strength to even try it once. I do hope it wasn't a waste of money, but you can only do what you can do.

I'm happy to get from my bed to the bathroom, to the wheelchair and get around the house what little I can. So and "Exercise thread," in my case is ironic, if not flat out humorous while being sad at the same time. Reading what everyone else is doing is motivating at a minimum. Thank you for posting it Dejibo.

Dejibo 10-15-2011 07:22 AM

Oh Craig! I am so proud of you! We are certainly NOT talking about the type of exercise we did when we were 20 or even 30. We are talking about modifying our day, our routine and our set up so that we can add a bit of strength or cardio to our day in anyway we can. Lifting soup cans while we watch TV. Peddling our legs while we sit. leg lifts in bed. Wii, or for those of us that are yet still able a walk to the mail box or even down the street. I pray folks see chances everywhere to add a bit of fitness to their day! laundry counts! scrubbing a toilet counts!

We MUST take excellent care of ourselves so that when that cure arrives we are in shape enough to benefit from it. I used to break a sweat peeling an orange! lol. Now I am out walking at least 2 miles each day! I used to feel like I was going to pass out getting from the couch to the potty and now I want to break a sweat on my walk and occasionally climb a hill or two. So, start small, go slow, and build up if you can. It does your blood good to pump and flush out that cortisol that is from leading such a stressful life.

YES, YOU CAN! Now get out there and wiggle something in public my beauties!

Did 2 miles today, but...I had a lot of quit in me today. I got up, got dressed, decided NO! I dont wanna. DH said "aw, come on! keep me company, lets go look at the leaves on the lake! UGH!!!!! so, I yanked on my walking pants and my shirt I dont mind sweating in, and had DH tie my walking shoes on my feet. Off we went. 2 miles! its really pretty out now, and he is right, in a week this will all be on the ground. Glad I didnt miss it. Now im off for a ride in the car! like an old dog im happy to get to ride in the car. :D

Dejibo 10-16-2011 07:16 AM

Taking the day off.

SallyC 10-16-2011 11:51 AM

Changed my bedding, cleaned the floors and scrubbed the carpet in front of my coffee table. That's all except for a few stretches, so I could get up on my feet without landing on my *stars*:D

Happy Sunday everyone..:grouphug:

dmplaura 10-16-2011 01:26 PM

Walked around this morning/early PM. Now I'm parked and taking it easy watching some NFL games. :D

Baked a carrot/pineapple/almond bread last night. Tried a small bite, delicious! I've not even been eating my store bought bread (whole wheat regular ole bread) as this recipe I came across makes wonderful low fat loaves that is a very versatile recipe to add and change ingredients.

With that said, no baking today... freezer's getting too full again!

Dejibo 10-16-2011 06:05 PM

Posting tonight, because I know I wont be around in the AM. Have a very early (crack of insanity) appointment across the state for DH, so I wont be walking.

I did manage today to change all the sheets in the house, wash all the bath towels, bath rugs, and hand towels with a large wad of dish towels thrown in for good measure. Vacuumed some window sills since winter is coming fast, and I need to be sure those drain holes are clear. Cooked an amazing dinner, cleared the virus' off my computer that I have loaned to DS, and a bunch of other stuff. How on earth I am still standing I have no idea, but its 7pm and I am going to sleep now. :p

SallyC 10-16-2011 06:56 PM

Nighty night Dej..

karousel 10-17-2011 04:16 PM

Today I was going to try a new class at the gym but my balance was not so good. So I did 20 minutes on the eliptical instead. I also did my grocery shopping which is a workout in itself some days! :p

sabimax 10-17-2011 05:47 PM

Walked yesterday, a big walk... cooler weather but felt good to be out there. Today worked, and just finished cleaning the kitchen including gettign down on hands and knees (pillow under knees) to scrub tile floor. So that was a good amount as I hurt after doing the floor. I did go to PT between work and cleaning.

hugsss all, keep wiggling.. hugss,sarah

Debbie D 10-17-2011 08:45 PM

Walked 3 dogs for about 15 min., then went to the gym. Walked for 15 min on the track, then did 20 min on weight machines. In the afternoon, did about 40 min of gardening, pulling plants & flowers out.

Have you ever tried getting a steam cleaning mop for the floor? I like mine. It's great because you don't have to get down on hands and knees.

Dejibo 10-18-2011 07:00 AM

I loved my Steam mop for a bit, and then...it started leaving streaks! upset me, so I sold it the the housekeeper. I have a spin mop that does a good job, but nothing beats that hands and knees clean that you get from getting up close and personal with the floor. I mopped mine yesterday as I got home to find the housekeeper didnt show up. She called twice and said "I have a tiny cold, should I come?" UGH! this girl will show up with a feverish toddler, but wont show up with the sniffles on a day I wont even be home?? I swear im gonna fire her.

Started on my walk this morn. Made about a mile, and simply couldnt finish. I short cutted back thru the woods and came home. My back is screaming! my legs are burning! I am really good at pushing past the pain, but yesterday I cleaned my own house because silly girl didnt come. I vacuumed, mopped, dusted, scrubbed tubs, and so forth. I am really paying for it today, AND its grocery shopping day. I think I will use the scooter in the store.

dmplaura 10-18-2011 01:54 PM

Walked quite a lot today and yesterday. Making more soup today. :) We've got some wet weather moving in later this week (maybe sooner than later.. it's getting gray and cooler out now) so I purchased the annual window plastic for a project when it's too crummy to be out walking much.

Yes the cold weather's coming. Booo!

karousel 10-18-2011 07:02 PM

Met with my personal trainer today and she gave me a whole bunch of new exercises including balance exercises. When I was done I felt like I was beat up and spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing. I am so looking forward to going tomorrow for another workout though.

Dejibo 10-19-2011 07:17 AM

Took an abbreviated walk today of 1 mile. it was slow, choppy, and im off balance, so I decided to just come home. DH was happy I asked, because we were poking along, and he was worried I was going to fall. Such is the MS life I suppose.

Its chiropractor day and that will help.

SallyC 10-19-2011 10:30 AM

It's probably just the weakness after your hangy ony cold. Rest my dear, not the time to push.

Debbie D 10-19-2011 03:28 PM

Worked out on an elliptical for 20 min., then 20 min of weight machines. I'm bushed...

sabimax 10-19-2011 03:57 PM

I am bushed reading the last two posts debbie of yours.. hehehehe good for you on the working out

good for all moving about...

I was gonna just rest today, beat tired from work as I am usually... but now maybe after I eat with the kids.. I will bundle and take a walk... or do yoga..

thanks for tips on floor.. hugs, sarah

karousel 10-19-2011 06:56 PM

Went to the gym today and did 30 minutes on the treadmill. Then I came home, rested and then took a nice long nap. I have a cold but I'm trying not to let that stop me from exercising when I've just restarted.

dmplaura 10-20-2011 12:00 PM

5k steps today (I am trying to hit 10k steps daily per my Nintendo 3Ds - though I'm not sure how reliable it is as a pedometer). The weather's pretty ugly here... mild but damp and raining a LOT. Windy at times. I got a bit wet earlier on when I was out and prowling around.

Going to dinner with coworkers tonight, haven't been out to dinner with the 'crew' in a while. Should be fun!

With that said, I may skip the trip out this afternoon and instead do some chores around the apartment. We'll see how bad things are after hubby goes to work, then decide.

SallyC 10-20-2011 12:49 PM

The weather in my neck of the woods is cold, rainy, windy and downright crappy. My body is saying "no way" today, so I'm stretching but otherwise, taking a leisure day...watching Halloween ghost movies on AMC..:D

Wiggling verrrrrry slowly today, under my blanky!:o

I should have followed your lead Sally, I went back out and got home soaked from the waist down. My poor sneakers. :( I wasn't even out that long! It was raining very hard, flooding widespread.

karousel 10-20-2011 07:39 PM

Today was not a good day to head to the gym - I too should have stayed home and not exercised. I did go to the gym and did the workout my personal trainer gave me. My balance was way off so it was hard to do some of the exercises. But I did it anyway.

Debbie D 10-21-2011 12:35 PM

Today I cleaned almost the whole house, except for dusting the bedrooms...vacuumed, dusted, mopped, washed the bathrooms, appliances.

Now I can kick back and relax. I haven't cleaned like this since the heat of summer started...:sunchair:

dmplaura 10-21-2011 02:19 PM

Much nicer day today, but blustery! Got a bit of walking and grocery shopping in today. Buy 1 get 1 free boneless pollock fillets, yay! :) Were some great deals at the grocery (and nice to go on a Friday mid-day.... less chaotic than I'm used to on Sunday morning).

karousel 10-21-2011 02:34 PM

Had the option of hitting the gym or taking a walk with my friend outdoors. Guess which won? Bit chilly out but the walk was wonderful. Then we met a group of friends for coffee. Love days like this!

Dejibo 10-22-2011 07:45 AM

more blind than sighted now, and im afraid my days of easy visual things has come to an end. I am still walking, still working hard on staying stable, but alas, this disease marches on.

I have written privatly and asked DMPLAura to please take over the exercise thread, as it would be a shame to see it die.

Please be good to each other, encourage each other. Push each other forward and remember, even the small steps count.

Thank you for the love and the cheerleading. :grouphug:
