Smile Spascity

I have terible pain in my legs that comes and goes. Walking any little upgrade my leg muscles get real tight. It seems at rest when sitting and at night laying down is the worst. My nero is ruling out things before he can give me any meds to heal. Is there others ways that you have gotten releaf. Sometimes I just get up and move around. Would love to hear from more about this. Thank You Kathy

Sorry about the spasticity and pain.

I move around and stretch throughout the day. Yoga stretches are great. Since getting in the bath has become difficult for me, I use magnesium cream made from Epsom salt. It helps. I also found a massage therapist that I can actually afford. She comes once a week and that really helps as well. I have meds for when they get real bad but try not to take them.

IMO, it's a trial and error kind of thing to find out what is going to work for you. Others will come along with suggestions and ideas on things that have worked for them. Try them out and see what works for you.

I hope you start feeling better soon and your neuro is able to pinpoint what is going on with you.

I try to stretch daily; there is a pamphlet available to download at NMSS with different stretches for MS patients.

I am on zanaflex-a lot of it!! My main symptom is spasticity and it can get extremely painful. Massaging as T said is good too.

My neuro is reluctant to prescribe any narcotics for pain and suggests I do the above to relieve the tightness. I also try to exercise during the week; water is better for MS patients.

Kadi - You would need to check with your state to see what assistance would be available to you. Most states have some type of program to help lower income people/families with things like health insurance, cash assistance, food stamps, etc. Although food stamps is a federal program, some states offer additional assistance. I am not sure how that works. It is worth checking in to. Even a few "dollars" a month extra helps out.

If you are talking prescription medications, a lot of the manufacturers have assistance programs. You would need to contact them in order to get the assistance.
