Default Two deaths from brain-eating germs in neti pots

Just read that two people died from amoebas in neti pots that attack & kill brain cells-
Seems the amoeba travel to the brain via the nasal passages...

I found this...it's not the Neti pot, it's the use of tap water, in the pot, that caused the amoeba, brain eating infection, deaths..

This is why I boil my water before I even attempt to put it in my neti pot.

mrsD posted about really boiling the water well before using it. And since that time, in speaking with one of my nurse friends, I started using distilled water and boiling that.

This is so sad. A lot of drs. are recommending using a neti pot now but fail to tell patients about the risk and proper use of neti pots. Hopefully, this will spark many of them to warn patients of the risk and using sterilized water as opposed to straight out of the tap. Neti pots have been used for centuries and they do work well when used correctly.

Prayers for their families.

Yes, there are other organisms that live in drinkable tapwater as well. When you put them up your nose, they find the environment nice to live in, and once they settle there they are almost impossible to get rid of.
