Default Hitting the Mattress with MS

Many of us have trouble sleeping and I know we have talked about it at various times. I came across this article today and thought I would share it with you guys. I have yet to meet an MSer that doesn't have some sort of trouble with sleep. (I have no trouble sleeping. I just have trouble while sleeping with lots of jerks and involuntary movements, which disrupts my sleeping pattern.)

I have recently been diagnosed with Central Sleep Apnea. My breathing starts off fine, but every time I go into REM sleep I simply stop breathing. It is nothing dangerous since when I stop breathing I simply wake up. On the other hand I don’t actually get any REM sleep at all. That can’t be good for a person, don’t you think? The doctor said that an MS lesion on my brain stem probably causes my problem. That’s the part of the brain that is supposed to tell our lungs to breathe.

I have no trouble sleeping, because I never try to sleep.. I lie down on the couch to watch TV and relax. The better the TV show, the faster I get to sleep.

I never sleep longer than 4 hrs at a stretch, so sometimes the quality is lacking, but most of the time, I get a good night's sleep.

Wonderful article. Thank you for sharing it. I think I'm going to post it on Facebook, too.

Twink, you kill me...

When I had my sleep study, the neuro discussed how one little jerk of a finger is enough to take a body out of recuperative sleep. Also, of course, the apnea. One of his neuro specialties is sleep disorders...he feels that 5 episodes during a sleep study is bad. I had 98...
