Default Do you worry that GMO food will affect your MS?

I have been running across alot about GMO food lately. GMO=genetically modified food. Monsanto has really been busy.

Things like High fructose corn syrup contains mercury!
Kashi and other natural cereals contain modified corn!
100% orange juice has been filtered, the oxygen removed, and then a natural orange flavoring added so it keeps longer in the fridge. So, my 100% juice isnt 100% juice! its full of orange flavorings, but since its made from orange they dont have to declare it on the label.

Have you heard about "pink slime" its in more than 70% of ground beef around america. Its the skimmings off the carcus and its ground up, then sprayed with ammonia and added to hamburger everywhere! I dont want to eat that!

I work very hard to eat clean, and after some simple research I am finding that even eating clean is harder than it looks. What is on the label, may not be what is in the package. Pink slime doesnt have to be labeled because the FDA considers it to be BEEF, and therefore doesnt need a special label. UGH! Do I have to start grinding my own?

Pasta is being grown with modified corn, rice, and wheat. So, if you do get all natural and then you use a package of speghetti, you just ruined your meal!

MIL was here. She brought some Jello. First ingredient was sugar. She made it and offered me some. I took one bite and spit it out! I checked the label. it has sugar and aspertame, and phelanalaytes in it (meaning they used a bacteria to make the aspertame!) UGH! its just supposed to be Jello! Dont they give out Jello by the truck load in the hospital?

Cellulose is actually a form of wood shavings? Used as a fiber filler??? COME ON!

Why do we need so many chemicals? I just want plain food. Does anyone else worry about where we are headed?

I do.....but it became so hard to do I just decided to do the best I can with what I have.

I got tired of paying for "organic" produce only to find out it really wasn't as organic as it was advertised to be.

I researched the "pink slime" and found a list of grocery stores that allow it and those that don't. But, do they really not allow it? Can I trust them when they say it's free of the stuff?

I hardly eat meat anymore. Once in a while but not very often.

It's just too expensive on my budget to eat the way I'd like to. So, I just try and make the best choices I can.

Don't eat too much ground beef. I use ground turkey instead but I do enjoy a burger every now and again. I might have to invest in a grinder myself. This pink slime scares me. You'd be surprised what's considered all natural. I work for a chemical company and you'd be surprised what customers we have and what they buy.

Well, Gaaaaccccccckkkkkkkk!! Pink slime?

I just ordered some Angus mini burgers from Schwans. I may now, not be able to eat them. Oh what the hey, maybe I'm being simulated by the GMOs and will last longer on the shelf or in the fridge..

With all the 'freakin around' with what we once considered to be healthy and nutritious food, it is hard to know what is ok and what isn't. As much as I try to be healthy in my choices, I just do the best I can with what I know and let nature take care of the rest.

Otherwise it will rule my life - and I will be damned if I will let MS take away my simple pleasures. I refuse to allow it that power.

Default Pink slime being pulled

Not sure how the stores will know but Safeway and Kroger are pulling and not allowing ground beef that contains pink slime. Safeway owns 2 chains in IL, Jewel & Dominick's and Kroger owns 1 chain that I know of in the area, Food 4 Less.

Publix is doing the same. They said they never allowed it and won't start. I hardly ever buy meat but it's nice to know if I ever do.

I wonder if processed foods that contain meat will put a disclaimer on their products if they don't use it?

I agree whole heartedly, but it's not nature I'm worried about, it's the freaking FDA and food processing plants..

Yes - I totally get what you mean.... I should have said ' do the best I can with what I know and let the cards fall where they may'.

You are all absolutely correct - who knows where this will all lead and what will happen to us all (MS or no MS).

I am "trying" to be proactive with what I put in my body.

You choose a gatorade drink that is blue colored, only to find it has high fructose corn syrup, AND the dye used to make it blue is made from ...petroleum! How is that allowable?

I try to stick to my local farms. I just got a half cow. No pink slime there! no ammonia either. I drink raw not processed milk. To pasteurize the milk the heat it from a live product till its dead. No probiotics, no live bacteria...it took me a while to find raw milk that we like, and tastes good.

We eat out of our gardens most of the year, but this year we ran short because we were so generous and had to supplement because while I was so sick DH was in charge of food gathering and prep. We are label readers, and were amazed at how many products are full of chemicals now. Full of sugar AND aspartame. Full of HFCS and sucrulose. Its scary! We started paying attention to the corn crops that are being grown in the heart lands and most of them are being grown "round up ready" or for Monsanto for use in pharmaceuticals. Beets are being grown for the sugar used as a base in many meds, and the change is here! we are no longer farming, because we are pharming! its scary to me that most of the corn grown today cannot be consumed by humans until its processed into high fructose corn syrup. Scary!

Start reading labels and you will be amazed at just how many chemicals are in your simple box of food.
