I have PPMS and; while I have no brain lesions and no cognitive issues (for which I am very grateful); I DO have Pseudo Bulbar Affect (PBA) something fierce. I burst out crying at the drop of a hat and sometimes laugh so hard at the dumbest thing that I literally can't breathe! I used to be able to tell a joke, but now I can get out only a few words before I start laughing so much I can't get to the punchline. While this symptom is not incredibly serious like pain or memory loss, it really is embarrassing if anyone is around to see/hear me. I tried Neudextra, but it made me want to jump out of my skin, so I had to stop taking it.
I guess I'm not posting because there is an answer to this thread; but just to get it off my chest. Thanks for listening. ![]() |

Hello again, AstaireGal.
First, I've wondered if those w mostly spinal cord lesions do not get the cognitive problems and those w the cranial nerve ones tend to get them? Just wondering. I am pretty sure I have some PBA. I also start to say something and then start laughing and get tears in my eyes. Sometimes, it's just thinking what I am about to say w/o even saying it. SO says, "Oh, she's getting giddy!" I wish it was just that. ANN |

I've got both brain and spinal lesions.
I've experienced something but not sure if it's PBA or not. I'll hear something funny either on TV or something someone says.....and while it's comical it's definitely not hysterical......but it makes me laugh till I cry. ![]() ![]() I've always been sensitive so sad or touching things always make me cry. I've always been like that. It's not more so now than it ever was so I tend not to be concerned about that. It's just the funny stuff I tend to sometimes have an inappropriate reaction to.

PBA.........that's what the main part of the clinical trial for a new drug is that my neurologist mentioned when I saw him last. It's supposed to have an added positive effect on nerve pain which is why he said I'd be a good candidate. Let's keep our fingers crossed that it works for both!

At the top of the page where it says Welcome" and then your name.....right below that it should say "My Mood: Change Mood". Click on "change mood" and a drop down of different moods should appear. You can select whichever mood you'd like from that list.
To make a photo your avatar you have to go to User CP and click on "edit avatar". I'm going to have to ask one of the other Mods to help you with this part. I know how to do it....it's just explaining to someone else how to do it is where I get confused! ![]() ![]()

I was on Nudexta and boy did it help!!
Then I went into the cardiac unit for a day for low pulse/bp. They told me to get off of it because it causes this. So I did. My neuro was very angry when I told him. He did clinical trials for it and had asked the makers of Gilineya if Nudexta dropped pulse rate. They told him it did but only by an infinitesimal amount, not enough to cause any problems at all. So now I have returned to my hysterical self...poor DH, not sure how to comfort me...and I didn't know it decreases NP! So that's why I'm having all those knife like stabs again ![]() I see the cardiologist in 2 weeks. I am going to challenge her on this & try to get back on it...

Heshy - Sometimes it is not the new drug you take but it added to everything you are already on.
I'm sorry that I don't know any other drugs for PBA. Welcome to Neurotalk. ![]() ANN |
