Default My Neuropsychological Test

Ok just came from my last appt with my neuro because she is leaving the office. and she told me that she can not explain my LP test of the 3 bands and it is strange that every things has stop now. Oh and I got your Psych test and I want you to read it because it is stating that you are under stress and maybe depress and that you should talk to someone. And maybe that is where all your symptoms are coming from oh and your memory test they said you didn't try hard enough

This is crazy... I see why it takes yrs to be dx.

You brought back memories of my neuropsych tests. The quack PhD doctor claimed my cognitive dysfunction, short-term memory loss, word finding difficulties, etc. were all due to stress and depression and that a little dose of some select pharmaceuticals could fix me right up!

Thanks, but no thanks.

No advice here, but I feel your pain.

Sorry. many of us have been told something very close to it is all in your head (duh), you have a psych problem or are out right crazy. One friend was told it was because she did not have sex often enough!

Your work-up is right on schedule- good to get this all out of the way. I hope the new neuro knows more about MS.

Best to you,
ANN

I think sometimes that the early symptoms lead them to believe this and it is an easy reason to quit looking for answers. My niece who is older than me, used to be called crazy in her teens and beyond. Then in her late 30s she had an attack that affected her legs. It was right before DMDs came out. She tried Betaseron, and couldn't tolerate it, it made her feel very sick. Now, she is bedridden with only use of her right hand. I hate it that she didn't at least get someone to listen to her early on. Her life would have been very different if they had.

She is a rare, extreme case, so don't get scared by her situation, but it makes me wonder why it is still blamed on depression or mental issues?

I hope you'll get answers soon.

It is blamed on mental issues because they either don't have adequate testing capacities, or because they don't use all of the available testing capacities. One case in point is disagreement among physicians as to what MRI results show. For many people with MS, optic neuritis is the road to diagnosis, because it's a little easier to pin down. However, in my case, even after I got double vision and a blind spot, it took a year to get anyone to diagnose it. The first neuro I saw said it didn't mean anything (I am not kidding, he was on Maui and he just didn't care about anything, just putting in time). Back in Seattle it still took going to a several doctors to get a label put on my continuing double vision and blind spot. Finally someone did an MRI and some neuro tests related to eyes, all positive.

With the Maui neuro, after he told me it didn't mean anything, I was waiting for my husband to pick me up. I sat in the neuro's office and just screamed. There was another person in the office who didn't look at me or comment. The secretary pretended not to notice. Maybe this happened often. Anyway, screaming was useless.

You see, I'd had many years of going to doctors' offices without diagnoses other than Neuresthenia, which I think means "trouble with nerves". So this was the last straw. The straw that caused the poor old camel to scream--uselessly.

I am so sorry to hear that she had gone through all that.

You know in March she thought it was MS that she put me in the hospital for a steroid infusion what scared her is how high my BP went up. My problems are in my feet now and my legs get these pains on and off but I can not walk so well once I stand up.
