I've been an insomniac since age 11. I have found that certain foods can trigger sleep. Complex carbs like whole grain cereals, breads & things like a salad with flax seed or wheat germ (tastes like nuts) can help induce sleep.
You can ask your PCP for a list of foods that might help. I usually try to shut off the t.v. early & read after eating my sleep "snack." You should try to do the snack about two hours before you are going to try to sleep. Make sure there aren't any distractions (ticking clock, snoring DH, or pesky cat/dog). Sleep specialists say that we should remove digital clocks from the bedroom, since the inclination is to constantly check to see what time it is stimulates the brain (a kickstart to wakefullness). Hope this helps! |
I don't know why but when I am having one of those nights it helps to move my pillow to the end of the bed. I have a spare quilt and I just push my covers aside and cuddle up with my quilt. Now my cat doesn't know what to think of me sleeping down at her end of the bed but she just cuddles up by my head and we go to sleep.

Eating a sweet dessert or anything with nuts can keep me up a bit late and also makes me a bit cold-sweaty as my body digests high energy stuff i suppose.

I dont eat anything but water past 5pm. I have Gastroparesis and to do so means I regurgitate half the night. its rare that we eat at 6, but it does happen. We rarely eat sweets here, even tho my brain tells me they are part of a nutritionally balanced diet. I eat fruit or stuff like that if I want sweets.
I got that magic bed pillow that blows up the head of the bed. I used it 2x now and I am impressed that raising the head of the bed just 2 or 3 inches at night has kept me from rolling and spinning and waking up coughing. I think I have been suffering with acid reflux pretty bad and dont notice it too much cause I am trying to sleep. I am trying to do more and more OUT of bed during the day instead of using it as my TV place, my computer place, my phone place, my game place, my facebook place...I am using the living room TV, Computer, phone...I am hoping this will make a difference for me. |
