My sister has been complaining that she keep on having this 'drunk' feeling everyday (and that with no alcohol), she is extremely off balance and confused,
We can only see the doctor 4 July, I know that the off balance is part of MS but not too sure about the drunken feeling, could it be that she will be wheelchair bound soon? I wish there is something I can do for her to make life a little easier! I feel so helpless! |

From what I've seen (and experienced myself), that "drunk" feeling is fairly common with MS. For me it comes and goes, but the "drunk" and "confused" feelings, often together, happen to me more often when I'm too warm, too tired, or both. Stress gets me confused also.
With MS, it ALWAYS could be that we will end up in a wheelchair soon, but it USUALLY doesn't happen. PPMS is a different deal than RRMS, which many of us have, but even still it isn't as rapid for some as it is others.

Hi Sister,
I am also sorry that your sister is having problems. I am wondering if she is having vertigo- can make the floor feel tilted and is a very unsettling feeling. ANN |

My Mother-in-law (like my sister-in-law doesn't tell me everything!) thought in the beginning that with my Irish heritage I was a drunk. Many MSers are thought to be drinkers in the beginning.
Hey, as a person in a chair 24/7 have to say, yes, it sucks, but have heard worse MS stories about walking people. (being in a chair has ruffled my militant feathers)

Sorry SadSister.
![]() None of them are necessarily permanent aids. Sometimes, when we are going through an attack, we may need a wheel chair, just untill the attack is over and we've regained some or all of our strength. Keep walking with PT when you can, but don't be afraid to use the crutches God made possible for you to use, to help us live life to the fullest. ![]()

i agree with sally that your sister may be having an exacerbation, or flare, of her MS. she needs to see a dr. her own, or the ER is a necessity.
if she isn't flaring, but the disease is worsening, perhaps she could be evaluated for some walking aids or PT. first you must determine what's going on. cognitive problems can also happen with MS. it's best to have a medical exam to make sure that something else besides MS isn't going on. please keep in touch.

Thank you to all for all your advice and support! It is greatly appreciated,
She walked beautifully today, up until 5 minutes ago... She fell with her cup in one hand and the other a knife... Thank God she did not get hurt! But now I am sitting here crying my eyes out! She keeps on saying that she wants to go to my grandfather (he passed away 4 years ago), how do I handle this?? It feels like its getting to much for me, it feels like I'm carrying the world on my shoulders! PLEASE HELP!!!!! |
