Default Spinal tap tomorrow

Wish me luck. I'm a little nervous about it.

What do you think the chances are of this being enough to get a diagnosis (already had mris/bloodwork)? That's just wishful thinking I guess, but I'm not sure what other tests are common that I haven't had other than evoked potentials?

Hi yeti,

Chances of a MS diagnosis from a Lumbar Puncture(LP) (spinal tap)? Depends on what the result shows

I received a definte diagnosis of MS (a long time ago) after my LP, which came back positive for o-bands. My diagnosis was based on the positive LP, neuro exam and symptoms. Every other test I had came back either inconclusive or negative.

Good Luck!

i was dx'd from the mri and lp.
hang in there. it takes time to go thru all the tests.
remember to stay well hydrated before and after the lp. it will help you feel better.

IF you get a headache contact your dr right away for treatment.

good luck. keep us posted.

Thanks everyone, especially for the hydration tip.

The symptoms match MS almost to a tee, including multiple episodes (without MRIs). Multiple lesions on the cervical MRI, but none visible on the brain. Bloodwork ruled out everything that blood work rules out. Lumbar puncture here we come!

I never had an LP. I was diagnosed with an MRI (with lesions) and 2 attacks.

This is a link for info in the McDonald Criteria and diagnosing MS:

I had read the McDonald criteria before, but I'm not sure I understand them. I have multiple clinically documented episodes and multiple lesions on the spinal cord for this latest attack (which was different from the first bad attack). Seems sufficient from what I've read, unless he's trying to rule some other things out?

I had my LP bent over the bed & the Dr. poked me 7 times & couldn't get it done right.
That sucker was giving up & said we'll just re-schedule it with the flouroscopy... I said no you won't I am going to lay down in the fetal postion & then you will have 3 more tries.... Well, finally he got it. Man I could have done some things to him right then if I could have stood up & lifted my left foot up then.
Just make sure youo stay hydrated like all of the others said.
