Hi,
I wanted to get some people's opinions on what is going on with me. I am a 26 year olf male. About 1 year ago I experienced the symptoms of Vertigo and my doctor ended up telling me that is what he expected it was because it was an isolated feeling for about 3-4 days of dizziness and uneasiness. At that time I also had an MRI done on my brain and everything came back normal. Since a year ago maybe 3-4 times I have had periods of a week or 2 where I would feel like my balance is off somewhat like vertigo. I have also been experiencing some tingling in my hands and feet on and off. The most annoying thing that has been happening also is that I have been having twitches all over my body for about 4 months. This includes my feet, lower back, butt, fingers, and the occasional facial twitch as well. These are pretty consistent and happen frequently. Lastly, I have been seeing white spots in my vision, like what you get after looking at a bright light, every couple of days for about 3 minutes a a time. My questions is how concerned should I be, as I did have an MRI on my brain a little less than a year ago and everything was normal. Could it just be symptoms of depression/anxiety or something else. When I look at symptoms for MS alot of these match up and its starting to worry me. Thanks for anybody's input in advance! |

With symptoms like that, I think the best thing to do to is to seek out a neurologist. Even though your MRI was normal, you have symptoms that have no explaination at an age where you should be in good shape. Unless you are on a medicaton that you have not mentioned, I'd be concerned too. MRIs do occassionally give false results. While I was in an appointment with my physical therapist for my back, he said that MRIs can give false positives or negatives. They are also subject to the interpretation of the Dr. who is evaluating the results. That doesn't mean there was any negligence, just that if you have multiple Dr.s interpreting an MRI, you will get multiple interpretations. What ever is going on, its not normal and the sooner you find out what it is, the sooner it can be dealt with. It may not even be serious, but it certainly merits checking out with a good neurologist. Sam |

Thanks for your reply. I made an appointment for a neurologist this coming Monday.
I was also wondering, when I had my MRI done on my brain a year ago, when the doctor or whoever it is that reads the results reviews it, do they do a comprehensive review for other abnormalities or do they only look for the item that the doctor did the MRI for? For example the doctor ordered the MRI to make sure there were not tumors or anything in my Brain and it came back with everything fine. Would they have also, if there were any, noticed anything else going on like lesions or anything? Thanks! |

Welcome to NT!!
I agree with Sally...did your MRI come with contrast (did you get an IV injection towards the end of the MRI?). Contrast will show any active lesions in the brain and spinal cord. When you see the neuro, bring all test results as well as a list of your symptoms, dates of onset and remission, and questions. It helps you get all the info you need. Good luck, and keep us up to date on what's going on ![]()

Debbie,
It did include the contrast, so I guess that's good news that at that time they didnt mention that they saw any type of lesions or anything at that point. |
