Default So.....Reynauds anyone????

I have just finished (hopefully) the hottest summer in Australian records, but I have a friend with MS whose 14 yo daughter is suffering terribly from Reynaud's (to the point of blackness in her legs/arms - despite the heat - just dreadful and agonising), and it got me to wondering, who else - (apart from me) gets that horrible waxen white/yellow effect on their fingers and toes in the cooler weather that causes numbness, pain and tingling?

I know I have to run my hands/feet under very warm water for ages to get the feeling back - and it usually brings pain with it. It is almost straight lines of white/normal from one joint to another.

Obviously, nowhere near the horrible experience my friend's baby is having...but still, made me wonder. This is nothing new.

How about you?

Default Hi Lynn

My mother suffered with that for years. I am sorry you are going through that. She moved to Fla. in hopes of keeping her hands and feet warmer. In Chicago where she lived most of her life, she was blue most of the time and utterly freezing. Wish there was some treatment for you. ginnie

My sister-in-law has it and yes, her fingers will turn white, hurt, and tingle. She has lots of pairs of gloves and drinks lots of warm liquids in the winter where she can wrap her fingers around the mug to help them stay warm.

I said some prayers for your friend's DD. I hope they can find something that will help her. I know my SIL is mostly effected in the winter but in the summer she gets bouts of it when she is inside in a/c. While it keeps her cool, the temperature is too low for her hands, if that makes sense. So, it makes sense to me that your friend's DD would have trouble even in the summer.

That sounds just terrible, Lyn. My prayers for your
friend's child. And for you too.

My hands and fingers are always cold, but not to the
extent of your problem.

Reynauds can be a disorder by itself and commonly piggy backs onto other autoimmune diseases. My mother has it and my sister has it as well. It is important to not get your fingers and toes to the point of turning colors.
I was told once that you risk internal infection from possible nerve damage.

I ordered my mom some mitts and footies that you heat up in the microwave from a medical supply store.

Its really tough to control in air conditioning. My mom worked at a job where she would have to count out change to put in cash registers and the coolness of the coins would turn her fingers pure white.

Big Hugs to anyone who has to deal with this
