Default I Fell and Couldn't Get Up

I leaned over to hug Monty when all of a sudden I fell, landing first on my head. Monty was so worried because he couldn't help me up. Arnie came running and tried to help me up, but my legs were too weak to help.

After multiple times, I scooted across the floor to my chair. Finally, with Arnie pulling and pushing, I was able to get into the chair. I sat and cried and cried. I had such an overwhelming feeling of helplessness.

Does anyone know of any type of mechanical thing we could use to get me back up to my feet when I fall? Any suggestions appreciated.

Awwwww............I'm so, so sorry this happened to you. I can definitely relate to the feeling of helplessness. Don't know of any mechanical type thing to get you back on your feet, two "hunky" men could do it!

From a seating position in a chair to standing, one strong person can lift with the "bear hug". You put your arms around their neck, they give you a bear hug and stand up. For me it worked getting me into my chair since my legs don't work. Careful though so nobody gets hurt. It would be pretty far for the lifting person to bend over though (all the way to the floor). Anyway for what it's worth.

Hugs are always a good thing.....

Awwww Mair.. So sorry.. And yes, I sooo know
the helpless feeling. 1st time two young paras lifted
me to my sofa and I was fine.

2nd time 1 little STRONG Para, lifted me from the
garage floor to my chair, using the bear hug. ..
Amazing!! But I ended up in the hospital that time..

After both times, after it was over, I had a good cry
from fear, anger and pity.

That lifty thingy is all I know about too. Be careful sweety..

I am an OT(altho I no longer practice in "real life"), and my husband is a PT. We worked/work primarily in home health. We used to assess and teach fall prevention/safety with our non-bedbound patients and their families. Included in that was teaching a person/family how to safely get off of the floor.

You might want to consult a PT for a one or two time instructional visit to assess and teach you. They may even be able to give you easily done activities to help maintain/improve the function you currently have so falls are not so frequent. Knowledge is power!

I am sorry this happened.

So sorry you fell and then, on top of the fall, couldn't get up
I was falling often and then did an eye therapy PT almost a year ago, for balance. I have not fallen due to balance since last Apr or May. The eye therapy was created by Jeff Hebert at the RMmsC.
