Hello Everyone,
My name is Eddie and I have posted on the MG board in the past. Last week after a nasty sinus infection I started noticing a weird visual symptom I don't remember seeing in the past. This was in the middle of the day and I noticed while looking at the carpet in a meeting, that the pattern seemed to swirl and move a round a bit. This of course made me axious, so I started looking for it in my vision. Now when I read , for example this paragraph, the words seem to float around, like a very slow wave goes through the text and moves them. I am extrememly nervous about this and has my stress at a 12! Either way, I tried to find examples or symptoms online and the closes thing I can find is Nystagmus and oscillopsia. The problem is I don't see my eyes moving and through a visual exam, my eyes look fine. There is no jerky movement back and forth. Once I told my Neurologist about this new symptoms, since I thought it may be the Myasthenia, he immediately set up MRIs, EEG, and EVP (signt and brain test while watching a tv). I also set up an appt. with a neuro opth doc next Thursday. I have no new symptoms except for this and the doctor agrees that this is Neurological in nature. I asked about MS (which he seems is the strongest possibility) or something else such as hypertension in the optic nerves. This sensation effects both eyes, even if I cover the other, and there isn't any optic neuritis. I can't find anything online where people have this visual sensation because my eyes are not moving back and forth. Does anyone have any advice or had similar symptoms? |

Hi Eddie and Welcome to the MS forum
![]() ![]() I'm sorry you're having vision difficulties. It sounds kind of like when I've had Optic Neuritis -- there was pain, swirling and eventually blind spots. Also this has happened when a migraine is on the way. Have you experienced this? Sorry I can't be of much help, but just know that MS can bring along strange symptoms which are different for everyone. Hope you find some answers soon, and in the meantime, feel free to hang around. This is a wonderful place for support and answers. Take care..... ![]()

I have had these symptoms for 5 days now. I had them while I was getting my eyes examed and my eye was perfectly healthy. That's why I am confused. Can astigmatism cause wavy vision, does anyone know?

Hi Eddie. Welcome.
![]() It doesn't sound like MS to me and since your eye exam was normal, I don't know what it could be. So sorry for your symptoms and I hope your Doc can find the reason. Feel better soon. ![]()

Thank you Sally. I think the problem I am experiencing is called Oscillopsia. From what hear this is common with MS. Thank you for giving me your input, it's very appreciated ![]() |

Not sure about astigmatism and wavy vision. Judy2, mentioned migraines, has your neuro or anyone mentioned that possibility?
Doesn't sound like any optic neuritis flare up I've ever had. And I've had several flare ups of that. That's, for me, usually a piercing headache, loss of vision for weeks, and it's temporary legal blindness, when I've had it. Fortunately, it, for me, when I have it, only affects one eye at a time. Hope you get some answers ![]()

I posted on you other thread and then saw this one. It is possible that the sinus infection caused some visual disturbances that you are experiencing. I've had my share of sinus infections and quite often I have experienced trouble with my vision (mostly blurry vision). My DD21 gets visual disturbances when she has a sinus infection (nystagmus). It is possible that the infection extended in to your optic nerve. I'm glad you are getting other tests done and will be seeing a neuro-ophthalmologist soon.

Food for thought- When we look at a glass half empty or half full, remember, it's technically full either way, half air and half water. Kind of stupid but hopefully that makes someone chuckle... ![]() |
