Default EMG Test - Does it hurt?

I am scheduled for an EMG test. Do they hurt? Is there any side effects after the test is done?

Hi Koi13.

Here is info from the Mayo Clinic on what to expect.: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/emg...you-can-expect

There are also Youtubes that show you various EMG's.

Hang in,
ANN

I don't remember it hurting. Just uncomfortable.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

They don't hurt, it's just slightly uncomfortable. Good luck with the testing.

I agree, don't hurt just become uncomfortable at one point. It didn't last long though.

EEG's that most of us have had do not hurt.

EMG's (that Koi is asking about) involve needles being placed through the skin and mild electrical shocks.

I have had an EMG. The needles in the skin was highly uncomfortable/slightly painful for most of it. I only had one part that was very painful and that was short. I don't remember having any side effects from it later though.

I don't want to scare you, but I think I was so much more afraid of the test knowing that they were going to stick needles in me and shock me with them. It really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Yes, I've had both and neither one was really painful, just most
uncomfortable.

to be honest, some areas of my test hurt when the needle was inserted.
the small shock didn't hurt.

my muscles tend to be painful so that could have been why.
overall it was very tolerable and no after effects.

Like some said, a little uncomfortable, but I didn't think it hurt.
