Default Newly diagnosed... This fatigue

Hi Half asleep here, but questions. Diagnosed due to nystagmus, past weirdness and a brain full of lesions, 5 days in hospital on prednisone, now home on 3x daily baclafen and klonipin at night. The fatigue today - I feel like I weight 1000 lbs. is it the medicines? It wasn't quite so bad the past days. I can't even hold my head up.
How long til my eyes stop shaking? They're better but still bad. Appt with ms specialist in a week.
Thank you, I'll be more friendly when I can function...

Xx
Jessy

Welcome to our community Jessy. Sorry that it is under such circumstances.

It sounds like you are on quite a medication load so yes, the fatigue can certainly be at least partially due to that. It takes a while for the body to adjust to it.

Hang in there and let the body rest. We are here for you.

With love, Erika

Hi Jessy. Sorry about your diagnosis and resulting fatigue issues.

Are you having spasticity? Is that the reason for the Baclofen? What strength are you on? It can cause sedation and if you're taking it along with the Klonopin I'm sure it's adding to the tired feeling.

Fatigue is probably the most challenging MS symptom I have because it affects everything.....walking, talking, and coordination.

There are specific meds that can be prescribed for fatigue. I used to take Provigil when I had insurance but haven't taken it in quite a while due to the cost. It worked very well for me. Amantadine is also taken by quite a few MS'ers for fatigue.

I hope you feel better soon and that your doctor can suggest some treatments that work for you.

Welcome...sorry you have the qualifications for this site, but it's wonderful for info, support and hugs.

I'm on both baclofen & clonapin. I find that clonapin makes me feel like a zombie and baclofen increases the fatigue. But it's also one of those symptoms that is prevalent on my list anyway.

Baclofen and clonapin are prescribed for spasticity for me, since I can't take zanaflex due to irregular heartbeat and low pulse.

Try your best to keep well hydrated and to force yourself to do something daily, whether it's a short walk, cleaning, something to keep your body moving.

Keep us updated, and hope you find the fatigue a temporary problem

Welcome to NeuroTalk and to the club you never wanted to be a
member of. Glad you found us. So sorry for your evil attack
of MS fatigue. Yes, the meds we take will sometimes add to
the tiredness/dizziness. Usually, after awhile your body will
adjust.

Hi Jessy and welcome

There is a wealth of care, support and information here. For me, it took quite a while for the eye shaking thing to stop, but I didn't have the prednisone to help me.

I hope it settles more quickly for you. If MS is new to you, hopefully the fatigue will settle a bit for you as your body learns to adapt and your brain starts to rewire to its 'new normal'.

Please keep us up-to-date, and ask as many questions as you like - we are not doctors or experts - just people like you who are living with this disease.

Hugs

Hi Jessy,

Everyone else pretty much answered the question about Baclofen and Klonopin. Yes, both medications can cause sleepiness and an increase of fatigue.

Welcome to NeuroTalk

Welcome to NT! The fatigue is so hard to deal with for many of us. Our bodies have to work so much harder to accomplish simple tasks. Adding in some of the medications we take only increases that fatigue. Also, I become extremely fatigued while on IVSM and for a couple of weeks afterward. That may be what you are experiencing as well.

As for your eyes, it's hard to tell when the nystagmus will stop. For some people it's while they are taking the steroids and others it takes a month or more. I hope that yours stops soon as it is an annoying symptom.

I hope you start doing better soon.

Thanks for your replies... Still dealing with the initial shock, the nystagmus, the drugs... I'm sure ill be back with many questions after I accept this all but honestly I can't even make myself think about the reality of it all now. My brain won't let me think about it. Denial, I know but I'm just not ready to accept it yet.

I will as what anyone knows about the correlation between vitamin D and symptoms? Evidently I'm vitamin d deficient, taking gel pills every day now per the drs orders.

Thanks everyone.
