Yes, it can be, for some peeps, helpful for nerve pain/burning.
It didn't help me, but I'm an odd bird, when it comes to meds. Hope it helps you.

I don't do well with a lot of medications but gabapentin has saved me from a lot of nerve pain. Years of pain were erased after my first dose. I have been on it for many years. Start out slow and amp your way up to the dose your dr. prescribed (not sure if he mentioned that to you). Also, take it around a meal and drink plenty of fluids. This will help minimize (or, in my case, eliminate) the side effects of sleepiness, grogginess and/or feeling as though you've had a few beers (unless you want that effect ). Once you are on it, do your best not to miss a dose. Like baclofen, is not a med that can be taken only when you have pain.
I hope it is as beneficial to you as it was to me. I know others did not like it and had a hard time tapering off and things like that. Others have done well with Lyrica, which is a cousin/sister of gabapentin. I'm sure some of them will chime in with their experiences. |

I tried this when I was going through TM symptoms but it made the body too weak and the mind too stupid to function in any meaningful way; and it did nothing for the pain.
Others have had great success with it, so hopefully it works for you. Everyone is different, so best to give it a good test run to see how it does for you. I was on it for 3 weeks before we decided that it wasn't for me. Didn't have any problems coming off of it though. With love, Erika |

I had the same experience as Erika. By the time we reached a dose that helped the paresthesias, I could not think and was very weak.

I know it works for a ton of people. I can't use it, it made me way too stupid. I had a really hard time remembering the correct word.

Hi Ann Are you talking about Gabapentin or Lyrica? I am taking lyrica, I finally reached a dose (300mgs a day) that is finally helping somewhat with pins & needles (paresthesias), tinglin pain and buzzing. I am still getting sideffects, bad stomach pain & bloating, some dizziness and now Hair Loss! Did you have hair loss? Did you finally stop your medication? What medication, if any are you taking for your pain now? I have sfn , idiopathic of course |
