--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My family doctor had an MRI done without contrast because he thinks I might have MS and this is what the report said:
PRELIMANARY REPORT
MRI OF THE BRAIN
Sagittal T1-T2 axial, FLAIR axial, fat suppression, T1 axial, diffusion axial, T2 coronal images performed. Plus 3mm cute through the area of the pituitary and sagittal axial and coronal images. No tonsillar herniation seen. Internal auditory canals within normal limits. No diffusion weighted abnormalities seen that would indicate an acute infarction with FLAIR weighting. No signal increase seen other than some minimal thickening in the right maxillary antrum. There is an area fat density in the area of the posterior pituitary. No evidence of microadenoma seen. Optic chiasm, pituitary stalk within normal limits. Pituitary floor not eroded.

IMPRESSION:
MINIMAL MUCOPERIOSTEALTHICKENING IN THE RIGHT MAXILLARY ANTRUM. SLIGHTLY PROMINENT PINEAL GLAND SHOWING NO SIGNAL ACTIVITY MEASURES NEAR 8MM. NO ACUTE INTRACRANIAL ABNORMALITY SEEN.

I was just wondering what this meant?

You need to get your doctor's opinion because he/she will also know your history and be able to consider your symptoms along with the report.

This preliminary report doesn't mention "lesions" or signal changes that might be indicitive of MS. The mention of minimal thickening in maxillary antrum is in reference to the sinus behind your nose.

I hope that you get some answers. Sounds like you are having some symptoms that your doctor is checking out.

With love, Erika

Hello mecndpr6 and welcome to NeuroTalk

I am definitely no expert but what I am reading appears to indicate the Brain MRI is good --- No abnormal findings

Welcome to NT!

I'm definitely not qualified to read an MRI or a MRI report. That's best left to the professionals. But, I did want to welcome you.

It does seem as though you are having some symptoms that are suggestive of MS, hence, the reason for the MRI. Having one done with and without contrast is important in the diagnosing process. I am sorry you are experiencing this but hope that you and your doctor can sort it all out. Please feel free to ask any questions and let us know what your dr says about your MRI.

hello and welcome to NT,

i don't know enuf to interpret the interpretation. i'd call your dr and ask him.
also, get a copy of the mri on disk and a copy of the report in case you see any other drs down the road. start a medical file on yourself. it will come in handy.

keep us posted on how you are. we're a great bunch for info and support.
